Follow up and a shout out to Millworkman: our handy guy came down and followed the instructions in the video and the twisted board is now a dim memory! Again, appreciate your help. These deck boards were $36 each (kiln dried, clear, planed on all sides) so we did not want to experiment and the original deck builder was unwilling to even try to replace the board. Using screws to put down any kind of decking is not overkill its normal.Using adhesive on composite is different, mabey it will take to the man made stuff mabey it wont.Composite defently moves with the weather/moisture. Nails have no place near the hold down power of screws and leave at least the same hole in the material. J

I just finished redoing my old cedar deck. It had developed surface cracks all over. A few were cracked all the way through and I had to replace those. But for all the rest of the deck I found a product called Elmers oudoor wood filler that was stainable at Lowes Hardware. I had a kid sand and renail those boards and fill the cracks with that product. Then he resanded the filled places and stained the deck. I can tell you it was a ton cheaper than replacing the deck boards (the few I replaced cost me $400 for about 12 boards about 12 feet long in construction heart redwood). The filler doesn't match perfectly but at the age of my deck it looked fine. I used Cabot's Australian Timber Oil in flame mahogany. Everyone comments that it looks great.

Hi There, We are planning to rip our whole deck down and building a completely new one. It will go from one end of the house to the other and will also put a shelter above part of it. It gets a lot of sun during the day. I have been researching on Composite as I initially thought that there was next to little to no maintenance. However I'm concerned with the numerous complaints about it 1) Markings that were easy to take off wood decks are incredibly difficult on composite. Scratches, dog paws..etc 2) How hot the floor gets if it's in the sun 3) how the boards get flimsy to the point where some said their deck is no longer usable as each board seems to be very bouncy. 4) How the warrantly may not be guaranteed by the seller 5) How it's hard to replace boards because it can be so different. 6) How composite boards are not where it should be at this point 7) Price. Then I started thinking Cedar versus PT. Any thought here? Thanks
