front porch/steps /landscaping help needed
Comments (13)There's a lot you can do with the front yard and steps depending on your cost. Like others have suggested, you might want to put in wider steps, maybe do stone steps with a paver pathway out to the driveway. I would encourage planting some grasses off to the right of the steps if your facing the house, not to close to the steps, and maybe put some small flowers in a bed around the grasses. It also could look good to run a flower bed from near the step across the front of your home and along the retaining wall. As for the large open space in the front and side of your yard there are so many options. You can do a few different flower beds to break up the area, including one farther out towards the curb with a tree in it to add some closure to your yard if you want. You could do planter boxes along the side of the house if you like gardening to help get some elevation away from critters. There even looks like enough space to do a small circle patio with firepit if you really want out in the middle area 45 degrees and 30-40 ft out from the retaining wall if you want though it would lack some privacy being in the front yard. So many options. Ultimately I'd check out some local landscape design firms or contractors portfolios to get some more visual ideas....See MoreHelp Needed by Landscape Designer for Flagstone Backyard Patio -Please
Comments (20)@greenfish1234 Thank you again for your input. I'm attaching a better picture of the back door area. Our door is currently a slider door - not sure if that will be switched in the future to a french door. How far past the door should the steps/landing go? The further we go, the further we cut into that dead space next to our family room wall (to the right of the door). Also, the deeper the total of depth of the steps/landing combined, the deeper the bed gets to the left of the steps/landing, unless we don't make that bed as deep as the steps/landing, but not sure if that will look right. I'm also attaching a pic of landing/steps I found on line. Not that I want curved steps or that material, but was wondering if I could turn that dead space into a raised planter on the landing. That way I can soften that area. If I did this though, not sure how far to bring out the planter - just to the last step, or to the edge of the back of the family room wall. In this pic, their dead space is probably 1/2 that of mine....See MoreNeed ideas for stone/siding/front door and landscaping on 1978 ranch
Comments (3)For landscaping, you'll need to supply more pictures. Starting at just left of the mailbox, with camera in hand, walk straight toward the house until you're even with the flower pot in the circle island. (The bank of 5 windows will be straight ahead.) Take 3 SLIGHTLY OVERLAPPING pictures from that location, panning from left to right. (In addition to the home itself, need to see the far left and far right surroundings of your house from that viewpoint.) Comments (9)I pulled up this photo. The brick is a little darker but similar to yours, I thought. I like the idea of a green for your shutters and I wondered about painting both door and trim a dark color, maybe a dark purplish almost black. I think the column could be pulled from your chart, a warmer tone than your current white - maybe Swiss Coffee. Think about whether you'd like that same color for your railing and maybe a dark brown from your brick for the treads and risers. Here's a screenshot of some greens that might work. This link will let you identify all the colors shown, if you want. I love your brick. https://benjaminmoorefrance.com/en/colors/1560...See Moreffpalms
