Buford: Yes, that is what my rose looks like. Yellow leaves, green leaves, and new red stems and growth. It's only the Sombreuil though. The hybrid tea, grandiflora, Darlow's Enigma, and Rhode Island Red (Fields of the Woods, Kocher Red?) are as usual. Michaelg, I looked closer this am and found that the leaves do have green veins on many of them. So is it an iron deficiency? Cemeteryrose, I did soak the roses with a Miracle Gro solution this am (contains 0.10 chelated iron) and will see what happens (NPK 15-30-15). I was hoping this would not get complicated, as I like to keep things real simple, but I suppose I have to look into the compost situation now. My mix, if anything is more green than brown (lots of coffee grounds and garden and kitchen greens). Usually wet and slightly smelly while it 'cooks', and that's when I add paper or leaves that I keep in a bag adjacent to the bin. But the finished product was dry, crumbly, delicious black and odor free. It was from a 2 year old batch.

How strange to find this. I've noticed the same thing earlier this week on my Souvenir de la Malmaison. The leaves fall off and are startlingly yellow but it does not seem to be blackspot. I simply assumed that I'd put too much fertilizer on the poor things. Like Beth, I gathered up the leaves and disposed of them, but have never seen this in all my years of growing roses. Who knows what it is! It seems there is always some ailment that is disturbing to us rose growers. The plants seem fine, and are growing, blooming and budding really well. It is probably what the experts like Seil have stated.

Gary, I was wrong, 4 of my rose bands didn't grow have soil issues, they're not the same as yours. I pull out one today which was planted next to a pine tree, I was hoping it can climb on the tree and be the center of one rose garden. It had white stuff all over the roots, not sure what was, I took a photo. The soil next to the pine tree is not good, I bought a bag garden soil today, will pick up another bag tomorrow just for the four roses close to the pnie trees. I aways add some manue (Lowe's) to every rose in the spring. I have a "working horse" to carry all the garden soil/ manueI, you'll see. :-) All the troubled rose bands are in pots now, hope they will grow in the potting soil. Good luck with yours.

Are you sure you're watering enough/water is getting to the root zone effectively? It really looks like drought stress to me. At any rate, aside from double-checking your watering and adjusting it if necessary, all you can do is keep pruning off affected foliage and spray fungicide regularly. The fruit looks like it has BER. It can occasionally occur on the side of the fruit, and I think I see signs of it internally at the bottom as well. This would support a problem with watering. The leaf in the third pic is wilted because it's broken. Probably damage from a storm/wind, an animal, or even from you as you work on the plant/tie it up/etc. I really think this is all an issue with watering.
