Baseboard / Trimwork with Beadboard

So we are having our floors replaced in two weeks and trying to figure out how to best update baseboards and door casings at the same time.

The problem is – our main living space and hallway has beadboard wainscoting panels installed by previous owners. Removing them will result in a drywall mess and repairing that isn’t in our budget/timeline.

We purchased modern baseboards before moving in and they work great in most rooms except here.

Considering adding quarter round or shoe moulding to give it more character next to the beadboard and break up the flatness.

Please help with any ideas!
