I cannot speak to whether or not it’s a design no-no, but we painted the interior of our home all the same color with different finishes for the walls/ceilings and doors/trim several years ago and I haven’t regretted it a bit. We used Westhighland White by Sherwin-Williams. It provides a simple palette for artwork and allows us to add color via the upholstery, pillows, window coverings and decorative items.

If, after you have lived in the house for a while, you want more color, you can always add an accent wall. Good luck.

Yes-yes! We renovated our house in the desert foothills of Yuma Arizona and painted everything Sherwin Williams Greek Villa, also using different finishes for walls, ceilings, doors and trim. It’s bright, airy and filled with sunshine. Perfect for changing color schemes seasonally. We did use Sherwin Williams Foothills to accent the arches over picture windows with views of the foothills or else the arch effect would have been lost.

Having been a florist, I love color, but think a warm white interior is perfect for using lots of accent color. Every room has a different feel.

It is actually a pretty popular choice. There is no reason not to do this and I have often advised people to do this when they really don't have a style or color palette that they have in mind. You can always add color later if you decide you want a blue bedroom or green office or hot pink bathroom.

We painted our entire new (to us) home all SW Alabaster in flat finish for walls, bright white trim in satin and doors in white glossy. One year later we totally love it. The one exception was the dining room and I did it in BM Van Deusen Blue. Also one wall in powder room in the Van Deusen blue. Love it. I have done this in several of our personal homes and also in several clients homes using various neutrals. Everyone loves this approach. Go for it especially if you have artwork you want to feature. Tall furniture will give a room an illusion of height as much as one paint color in the room. Lighting in a white room is key…seeing shadows is a quick way to shatter that illusion. Dark paint can also give the illusion of height because you don’t notice corners/shadows as easily. The point of all these illusions is…give people something else to notice first (big furniture, large art, light and bright, dark and moody) before they notice the ceiling height.
