Which cabinet color-Simply White vs. White Dove?
Comments (134)I always use an extender with Aura. It gives you more time before drying. If you're painting a bathroom, research "surfactant leaching." This happens when the paint in a bathroom isn't fully cured, and you use the shower. Google photos of surfactant leaching. Most paint stores will say latex cures in a few days, but I had this problem in two homes and did extensive research. You get ugly drips down the walls, and they are yellow or brown. You can wash it off, but it comes back. Now, when I paint a bathroom, I wait 30 days before using the shower. That may be overkill, and if you only have one shower, that would not be possible....See MoreWhich white countertops with bright white cabinets?
Comments (10)I get what you're saying! I like to layer texture, too, when going tone on tone. I was thinking a slightly unusual white tile shape for the backsplash to add texture. Our floor will be either bleached oak or grey stained oak (haven't settled on this yet, because we have boards that are nearly 100 years old and will be joined with brand new boards). Our kitchen island will be either very dark grey or battleship grey. My thought this morning was that we could do FC on the island for texture and then do PW on the white cabinets. The thing is that the white cabinets actually don't have that much countertop space (against the backwall where the cooktop will be) so, again, perhaps I'm overthinking this. We had Misty Carrera in our old kitchen with white cabinets and it bothered me that the counters were more grey than white....See MoreGray and green - which one for cabinets/ walls?
Comments (17)I think-since cabinetry is so expensive, is such a hassle to makeover, and is supposed to stay there for the longest possible time-when one decides to go with a color for it, it should be the color that a)plays best with the rest of the elements, concept of the house itself, style, view, etc) and b) color that has a potential to make him/her the happiest whatever their mood is. Say I recognize that sometimes I'll need to be invigorated, and sometimes I'll need to be calmed down. It's a house. One expects a lot of it. It's like your parents-they need to answer your changing emotional etc needs, right?:) That's how I chose my taupe/greige cabinets-after taking into account the concept, the view, the flooring, the other blahblah-I knew that throughout decades this color had the ability to both make me happy and uplifted-and calmer and consoled. I don't believe in universal reactions to a color. Some things are universal, sure-but some are cultural, have historical context, geographical context..some are highly personal too. So. When it comes to a paint on very expensive surface. I'd listen to my house, very attentively. And I'd listen to myself, attentively just the same. One can pull off green plus gray but will be challenging. Can be done though if one does it in a very considerate way. They might look the same in the end lol. Green plus cream would be nothing short of fab. Or green and off white. Green cabinets-the mild color you're thinking of-are breathtaking to me. Are they to you? Do you love them enough to smile every time you look at them? What's your visceral reaction to gray? Do you love it enough to marry it so to say? You might. Whatever's a fad or nowadays fashion shouldn't concern you. IF you love it enough because to you, it spells both joy and consolation. Or will you find yourself happy with cream, day after day? Don't mind the timelessness. Now wood stain will come back soon (already knocking at the door) and in five years folks will suddenly forget how everybody wanted white or cream cabinets. Is it fair to whites and creams? Of course it's not. But it's how things here are lol. So don't think of its versatility too much either. Wood stain is the most versatile of them all to say the truth(if not too distinctive a stain). Think of only whether it goes with your concept, and whether you love it enough. I looked through hundreds of inspirational pics. Very different yet all amazing. I narrowed down to two of them I couldn't take my eyes off One, I could pull off in my kitchen. Another one, I could not, because of layout etc. Eventually I chose one of them as the inspiration for the color, and I never looked back, and I don't care what others think(they think it's very pretty anyway lol) I just care about what my house thinks and what do I feel looking at it every day, being a bit different every day. The color still have this magic about it-to be whatever I want, regardless of what day I have. Ah, and when picking color..look everywhere. Your green can be listed in grays. Or in off whites. Or your gray can be listed in greens or off whites. Or your white will be found in greens lol. Don't mind the name. Look for the shade that will behave as you want it to behave, in your space, in your light, with the rest of your elements. Give it your own name if you must. Disregard how companies call that color. Think of paint for your walls of course, simultaneously, since the concept should be developed as a whole if possible; but pick it after you make final decision about cabinets. Walls are easier....See MoreWhich grey for kitchen island?
