Fiberglass Window Spacing

Ellie Ab
last year

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased Milgard Ultra Z-Bar retrofit windows to replace my old aluminum windows and was really taken aback by how much of an airgap there is between the new window and the original frame. It appears to me that the installer did not measure correctly. The gaps were filled with foam and covered up with a plastic trim that matches the windows. I measured all the trims and noticed that the smallest trim measures a little over an inch at the bottom (including the original frame) but some of the other trims are over two inches on each side. Therefore, the measurements are not consistent. Is there something that I am not understanding regarding window replacements or did the installer make a mistake and deducted too much from the measurements?

My concerns aren't only aesthetic. I'm worried about being at higher risk for water leakage as well.

Thanks in advance for your help!
