Sport court size

We are building a new home with an indoor sport court- currently our plans have it at 19 x 18, but I’m worried this is too small.

Should I go to 24 x 19?

Hi Mark!

We plan on playing basketball, tennis, floor hockey, and badminton.

Not using a product by sport court.

I agree with Shade Tolerant, whack the Eiffel Tower division out and plant it separately. You won't be able to determine if it's really a larger sport for several years, but there is no point in being annoyed every time you look at an uneven plant. While you are doing the requisite surgery, take the time to completely untangle and separate all the roots if you haven't already done so. This can be quite a job with a badly pot bound hosta, but it's well worth the time. Even if you have to cut off a few roots, or quite a few roots, get the entire root ball separated and fanned out before putting both divisions back in the ground. Unless you do this, a pot bound hosta can remain stunted for years. When I buy a seriously root bound hosta and it proves impossible to untangle and separate the roots, I take a serrated knife and cut straight down between divisions to divide the plant, roots and all, into smaller sections. If I still can't untangle the roots, I cut it into smaller sections. Think of it as cutting a really tall pie into wedges. A hosta will do better with this treatment than if left with tangled roots. Once you can untangle all the roots, you can either plant those pieces out or cut them into smaller sections if there is enough root growth to support the divisions.

Yeah, I realize now that I should have sewed more slowly. Thanks for the advice and the link, Izzie, IÂll check it out. And I'll slow down. : ) Noinwi, no my machine doesnÂt have speed control Â well, except for my foot on the foot pedal. : ) I donÂt think this is why my threader is off kilter, though, because I really havenÂt used the machine much up until now. By the way, the threader works fine with the Âjeans needleÂ (I found this out when I switched over), and it also works fine with the new Kenmore needles. So, maybe there is a slight difference in the generic needles that I bought previously. IÂll check out your site on fabrics, too Â thanks. No, the needles donÂt have coloured-bands on them Â theyÂre all size 90/14 Sharps. Which is odd since they are for both "woven fabrics and knits", according to the label. I have been told before that for knits you should use ballpoint needles, so even I find it strange. Oilpainter, yeah, I thought after I posted that cottons must be wovens. Thanks for the tips on how to determine what needle to use. It is a lot of common sense, isn't it? : )

I would at least flip the sauna and steam room 90 degrees and put them against the wall. Then, move the washroom/lockers door closer to the stairs and open up the stairs a bit(instead of having a wall where the steam room is). Something still seems odd about this layout. I think it is because the stairs are breaking all the spaces up from each other? If I was doing a sports court and workout room in the basement, I like the idea of the workout room overlooking the court. The stairs between the 2 of yours really break that up. I would also want to be able to lounge by the endless pool and have kids play in it. You have very little space around your pool, which makes it feel very utilitarian. Overall, I would personally want the spaces more connected.

Restoring color of faded plastic on snap-together modular sport court

The plastic Versacourt basketball/pickleball court in my backyard is old and very sun-faded. It doesn't look good. I have been researching ways to restore the color since replacing the court would be very expensive at around $15,000. I've seen color restoring liquid products I could roll on myself, but they are very expensive - the cost would be $1,000+ and it doesn't last long so the process and cost would have to be repeated every year or two. One thing I had noticed was that if I scratched the plastic with my fingernail, the faded layer came off, revealing a much darker color. So I got the idea to scrub a couple of the plastic tiles with a wire brush and those tiles look practically good as new. Is scrubbing my entire sport court with a wire brush a viable option for restoring the faded colors? I've found electric, walk behind wire brushes online so it wouldn't even have to be very labor intensive. But is this a viable solution? My wife thinks it would fade super-fast because I am probably scrubbing off a UV protective layer but I don't think that is the case. I think the UV protection is mixed throughout the plastic, not a coating, based on Versacourt's description. Either way, I think this could be a good solution but I am afraid I am possibly missing something. Any comments or suggestions for alternatives would be appreciated.

Much too small. And likely too low of ceilings to play basketball. Do your trig for the arcs.

We do have 16 ft ceilings there, but I agree, I think moving to 24 x 19 is the smallest we should go….

Do you think that size would be ok?

Ours is about 16x26 with about 19' ceilings. We have sufficient space for free throws and a partial 3 point line. Playing actual basketball would be tough. I agree 16 might be too short for a ceiling. Tennis would be pretty impossible to play in there. Maybe pickleball would work. And knee hockey but probably not stand up floor hockey. It's enough space for 2 people to pass a volleyball back and forth. It's enough space for our preschooler to kick around a soccer ball. And we could probably play catch as long as no one throws too hard.

*ETA I should note that our actual size is about 16x31 but the back portion is under a shorter ceiling and is where we have an in-home gym set up. So it feels more spacious due to that extra space. I think I would feel cramped if there was a wall at the 26' point.

Do you have any pics of the court you could share? I’m so bad at conceptualizing space haha

I don't have any photos of ours but this is the model of the home we built. We extended our sport court the 4'-6" shown in the floorplan. Photos represent a ~16x21 court.

My niece lives in an area where there are a lot of houses with sport courts. Most of them are in free standing buildings which may impact the issue she has with some of them. The issue is that while they got a basketball court in the building there is no room to run out of bounds. The court takes up the entire area with minimal area outside of the baseline.

She has commented that there have been some injuries where kids ran into the walls at practice. Her comment is that you have a 1 mil $ home, don't cheap out on a few more feet.

For my comment, Mid west a mil $ home is not a run of the mill house, 6000K sq foot, acreage, etc.
