All FLOORING experts… I need help!!

last year

I wanted a dark color for my house. I decided to put in engineered hw as opposed to LVP. It just looks nicer to me. I found a sample I love, it’s Mohawk Whistlowe Java Birch. Then, I hear from the salesperson that I am going to regret it. But I LOVE the color. Any recommendations? Should I look for a new floor? I don’t want junk.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a link to the product on their site. Vintage View, Java Birch Hardwood Flooring | Mohawk Flooring. I have to say it is entry level engineered floor with 3/8" total thickness and thin wear layer. I advise to order sample first before you buy.

Ugh… so if its entry level , it’s nada? I did order a box. Loved it. But then again, i am in love with the color. Any suggestions?

Mjlb: Yes! One bath could be accessible from hall. If you have ideas, I would love to hear them. I should have added I planned to eliminate entrance to Master closet from hall anyways. That's just weird to begin with. I really want my daughter (who will be the oldest child) to have her own bath, which is why I wanted to do the en-suite baths. In regards to thinking in 3D, trust me, I have....or trying to anyways. I have a program I use (not a professional but it helps with the visualization.) The bumping out is actually creating a larger family room below, which is why I want to do it, not just to create a larger Master. Plan has two fireplaces. Both are listed as optional, so I have so wiggle room there as well. This is a stock plan, Unfortunately a truly custom plan is not in the budget. I love so many aspects of this plan, especially the exterior.

Sounds similar to crepes Suzette but without the alcohol. If you Google Crepes Suzette, you may get a variiation with the apricot jam. QUICK CREPES SUZETTE 1/2 cup sweet butter, softened 1/4 cup sugar 2 tsp. grated orange peel 1/2 cup orange juice 1 tsp. lemon juice 10 to 12 cooked crepes 1/4 cup cointreau 2 Tbs. apricot or peach brandy Cream butter; gradually beat in sugar. Add orange peel, orange juice and lemon juice. Heat in skillet or chafing dish. Dip cooked crepes in mixture; fold or roll them and move to side of pan. Heat liquer and brandy in small pan. Pour over crepes; ignite with long match. Spoon sauce over crepes until flames die. Serve immediately. 5 or 6 servings.

My Acadia White cabinets- cararra marble counter tops. The walls are SW 'Dressy Rose' which is really a mauve. The floors are a bit orange, but that was from my previous kitchen. I may refinish them to a more neutral brown..or not. We have since put the cabinet door on the dishwasher and I think I will trade out those pewter knobs with wooden ones painted the same as the cabinets despite the objections of my carpenter and painter. It all depends on the look you're going for. I will be asking those here just what to do with the color of my table which is still the color from the old kitchen. We are keeping the rug because the kids are attached to it.

Very quick virtual drawing, but if you want to pull the curtains to the opposite sides to allow light in during the day, but still keep the light out at night I think the idea of traverse rods really would work the best since they rods would be too high to easily reach. I didn't think of that when I mentioned the rods I did above. In order to keep the room from looking lopsided you could install a corner cabinet/shelf unit painted to match the trim to fill the bare wall space on the right. For best results I'd have the cabinet built-in so it's left side is the same distance from the window trim as the corner on the left side of the room is to the trim of that window. After I made this quick drawing I reallized you could possibly have your carpenter use the trim that is in the corner for the front of the cabinet. Avoid wasting money on entry level floors. These are one and done. Most likely will need to be replaced after it gets worn and scuffed. They should have a higher quality product line with the same color available. Search deeper into their website.

Did the salesperson warn you because the flooring was cheap? or because its a dark color? some people don’t like dark colors because they show more dirt and footprints.

Hallmark Silverado collection has a similar look, but again the collection is inexpensively made. I would check other options from Hallmark floors. We have great experience with the brand. People can always find the design and color they like. Good luck!

I think H2O2 is on the right track. I also warn people about both issues, putting in a floor that can never be refinished because the top veneer is insufficient for sanding, and dark floors that will require more upkeep and are likely to show light colored soil.

What kind of base are you adding the flooring to?… as to LVP … have you looked at the top of the line Cortec…it is very realistic in the lighter colors… we have had people ask us if ours is real wood …in 10 years have never regretted the choice…anything that wears away would worry me… we made the choice since we are on a slab… with potential water issues…
