Your Favorite Perennial Mail Order Sources?
Comments (27)Wayside gardens used to be really great. But they were bought by Park Seed and that was the end of customer service and quality for Wayside. They ship plants haphazardly and tiny plants in big quarts size pots and charge for quart size root balls. You can't get any one from customer service on the phone nor do they answer emails and the order takers can't help you solve a problem. Read the many negative reviews Wayside has now over in Garden watchdog. Out of 805 reviews, they have 372 negative, 125 neutral and 308 positive. I'd bet most of those positives are pretty old. What really cracks me up is that Wayside always answers every negative review with a "we couldn't find your order from this information, so please contact us with your order number, and we'll make this right." When they posted that on my two negative reviews, I pointed out that I had included my order number and email in the review because I had read their previous responses, so why were they still having trouble contacting me. Way, way on the other end of the spectrum, Santa Rosa, Annies Annuals, and Lazy S'S Farm, Plant Delight all provide great customer service, knowledgeable people if you call with questions, super well packed plants, and wide variety of plants that you won't find anywhere else. And Geraniaceae.com is the most incredible specialty nursery for hardy geraniums, erodiums and pelargonium....See MoreYour favorite spring bulb mail order source?
Comments (24)ceraholt: In my experience, none of those pink daffs are ever pink - the best I've seen in my garden is somewhat apricot, and these are bulbs from Botanus and Vesey's, both places I would highly recommend - order their catalogues and do some comparison price shopping with Brecks. I have never found the quality and variety in nurseries to be the same as that I have purchased from these companies - also, they will refund/replace bulbs which don't come up generally, and nurseries (like Humber which I frequent) do not offer the same deal. I also recommend Valley K for lilies - mine are three years old now and simply awesome!!!...See MoreFavorite mail order sources
Comments (4)I have ordered from both of those nurseries and they both are great with shipping and quality specimens. The best bang for your buck if you don't mind starting with smaller plants is Stanley and Sons. I have placed 2 orders with them over the last few months and they are cheap. You have to be a member of the conifer society and order a minimum of 15 plants but it is worth it! Prices range mostly from 6-10 dollars per tree with a few rare ones getting up to 15-25. With shipping on two orders I spent under 300 for 30. They even upgraded a few plants to gallon size pots :)...See MoreWhat are the most reliable mail-order hosta sources?
Comments (18)You cannot go wrong with Hallsons. I plan to place an order for fall planting very soon. Others are good: "White Oak" "Plant Delight's" "Hosta Patch". Hallsons just seem to be a little more personal. And knowing that they test for that virus (which I did not know that they did until I read this post)....well it certainly makes them all the more trustworthy to me. I go with the others only when they don't have a specific hosta that I am looking for....See Moreruth_mi
