I just built a quartzite patio in Reno, NV. I used the new product, polymeric sand and it worked great! I got the sand in 60 lb bags for $20 a bag from Home Depot. My patio is 9X27.5 and I used 5 bags. It looks like regular sand and sweeps into the joints. You then mist it 3-4 times waiting about 10 minutes between each misting. The water activates a weak polymer glue and locks the sand granules in place. We don't have much problems with frost heaves here, but if a stone moves you can pull up the sand in chunks and step on it or use a shovel to get it back to a granular stage, sweep it back in place and re-mist. Although the polymeric sand sets up pretty hard I don't think it would stand up to a leg from a patio chair, etc., so we plan on getting sled style chairs for the patio. It does do well with walking on it and the sand stays put! So far we are very happy with it. I'll let you know how it goes thru the winter. We get very little rain here but we do get snow.

We rented a 14" electric dry brick saw, BX-3. It came with a 14" diamond C1 blade. The cost was $65 for 4 hours. The saw required a 20 amp service. It worked really well, but it was quite windy, and the dust went everywhere. We did the border first, installing the pavers vertically. Then we laid all the horizontal pavers that didn't need cutting first, so that we could minimize the time we needed to rent the saw. We had never done this before, but we are quite pleased with the results. We had intended to sweep sand into all the crevices, but I like the look of it without the sand, so the jury is still out on that. I'm sure it would be more stable with the sand, but not as aesthetically pleasing to me. We'll see.

Hi we just had our deck poured went with Omaha Tan, after the Acid Wash it is quite a bit lighter but still looks pretty good....our last pool we had San Diego Buff it looked pretty good we had the salt finish, both colors are nice....I think the Sandstone looks a little to gray-just my opinion...if you are Acid Washing keep in mind the Davis color will get lighter....if I had it to do again I think I would go with the Omaha or Sequoia Sand...good luck I think whatever you decide (It took me a long time) that it will look fine...

Thanks everyone!! Pat, I stuffed pieces of old, broken concrete into each 'hole' then brushed a dry cement/sand mix (6 parts sand, 1 part cement) into all the crevices. I stuck the pebbles and the tiles into the dry mix, swept the patio to even out the dry mix, then watered the whole thing. Carolann, we get frost here, no snow, but that doesn't seem to bother the abutilons. I read where they say to give them lots of sun but my best flowering one is in full shade. And these guys never get watered unless it rains - and we've had very little rain all summer. I'm sure if you planted it in a protected area you'd be successful. They're just sooo beautiful!
