Utility Sink for Washing Small Dogs
Comments (22)Sorry, I've been AWOL & just catching up with this thread. (We drove straight through from Houston to SC on Sunday & have been on a whirlwind schedule doing walkthroughs & meetings for selections.) gerberdaisy - we're about on the same wavelength. Rather than integrating the drainboard with the SS utility we're just going to have some base cabinets with a countertop we can put a slip proof mat on for drying off and grooming. To me, the issue with the Booster Bath is that you have to run a line to some drain & connect to water supply hoses. I'd rather have a sink with a drain & faucet that we can use for other purposes. After a couple of days walking around the site, I can tell that having a place to rinse off Wellies or garden clogs will be great. Like gobruno (& flgargoyle, soon enough), it isn't the periodic bathing as much as it is getting muddy paws rinsed off before they track it into the house. With some kind of washing station in the room from which they access the outside, this will be a an easier task. On Monday, during one of many walkthroughs, I said that I wanted a scullery sink in the dog room. The builder started to talk to me about a shower setup he had done for another client. The cabinetmaker chimed in & said, "She has small dogs. She just wants to pick up the dog & put it in the sink. The scullery sink will work just fine." So, I'm encourage that a professional set of eyes on the space I'm trying to outfit thinks that the scullery sink will work. It's interesting to see the task of dog washing/cleaning through the eyes of owners of very different types of breeds. With small dogs, picking them up & plopping them in the sink is probably faster than trying to convince them to go up a ramp. Silky Terriers don't have an undercoat, so they don't shed anymore than you or I "shed" hair. And yes, they love to shake once the bath is done, but it doesn't drench an entire exercise. Thanks for the thoughts & I'll update you when it is eventually installed. Jo Ann gobruno - yer killin' me waiting for pix. LOL!!!!!...See Moredog washing station
Comments (7)Yes, we have a dog washing station. Rather than putting it in the regular side entrance mudroom that gets frequent use by family and friends, we located it in a separate room that is located off of a small fenced/gated pet area adjacent to the house. That way the dogs' mess is hidden from view, and the area is easily accessible during nasty weather, without having the dogs track through the house. We have large shaggy dogs and after many years of aching backs leaning over to bathe them in a large shower or to lift them into the tub, we took the plunge so to speak, and invested in a real stainless steel dog washing station. It's one of my absolute favorite things in the new house. I have friends that have accomplished something similar, just by raising a standard tub to a comfortable height -- although it is problematic getting a large dog in such a tub. I believe this topic also came up on the Kitchens forum within the past year or two, and some people posted photos of their dog washing stations. With recent forum technical problems those posts may have disappeared, but you can try doing a search over there....See MoreFeedback and suggestions on kitchen/Butler Pantry/WIP/Mudroom?
Comments (11)Thanks for the suggestion! You're the 2nd person to suggest flipping the bathroom and pantry. Makes my walk during conference calls a lot longer, but i think it's probably the right thing to do. Though hubby wants it to be a "short" walk from back door to pantry so he's not "carrying groceries halfway across the darn house!". Yes, the upstairs closet is a "laundry" (I forgot to change the label). The master closet is massive bc I work in Fashion and have a lot of clothes ;) It's been my childhood dream to have the kids bedrooms share a jack and jill bath. The hope is that with the tub/toilet having a proper door, privacy of pocket doors isn't a big deal for the sink area....See MoreWorkstation sink vs main sink + prep sink? Tell me what you have!
Comments (61)Stacy, I have the Akurum line which had the split top drawer standard. It can be done by mounting a divider to attach the rails to. That is how I do the individual trash pullouts under the sink (see the under sink photo I posted earlier) . I dont necessarily think split drawers are an advantage because you lose about 3 1/2” storage. I like the off-white Bodbyn. It’s not yellow in my kitchen which does have warm lighting @ 3000K and lots of wood which causes it to photograph with a yellowish cast. Look back at my daughter’s kitchen to see how the Bodbyn looks next to bright white subway tile. She has warm lighting too. Also, Ikea has a new door, Akstad that is bright white. Hope you find something you like....See MoreMrs Pete
