Kohler underscore tub

Want to replace a tub/shower unit with an alcove tub which will still have a shower above it. Keep going back to the Kohler Underscore, but can't see it in person in any local showroom. My wife takes baths everyday and is about 5' 1" and the tub will also be used daily by our son who is about 7 and a few inches over 4 ft. Does anyone have issues with the tub since it seems pretty high with getting in and out on a regular basis or any other concerns with it?

What is it you want to know? If a soaker tub is what you want this looks perfect and I as 76 and have no issues getting in and out of my 19" tub and your son will grow quickly . The length is not going to change so maybe if you are concerned add something on the edge of the tub you have to make it 19" to see if your wife is okay with that. Since this is a reno maybe also think about adding a grab bar on one side near the end for down the road or to make it easier to access.

The tub I was looking at was 21" I was wondering if it was a nuisance for short people to get in and out of.

We just put it in our house. Haven't used it yet, but it looks beautiful. The one thing that surprised me is that the drain is in the smack dab middle of the tub (not on one side or the other). I'd just not seen that before; so, I thought it was weird. I guess they did that for symmetry?

Steps are dangerous. It is safer to sit on the deck, swivel your tush, get one foot into the tub, keep rotating around, get your second foot in, keep rotating until your knees are over your feet and then stand up. Install grab bars. Use the reverse process to get out of the tub. Accidents occur when folks STEP in and out of bathtubs.

I just had the same issue with my Kohler underscore. We just set the tub and filled it with water and shortly I saw a slow leak start in the rear or the tub somewhere around the rear support leg. We got ours from Wayfair and when I called they said that they are sending a replacement. I sure hope I don't have the same problem again like you had. Framing was just done to work with this tub and we don't have many options.

I'm barely 5'0" and I'm going to order the Underscore K-1136. I was able to sit in one, and the height (22") was fine for me. I take a bath everyday too, and being able to get in and out easily is top priority for me (that's why I'm not getting a free-standing tub).

Please note the water depth is only 15.5"

You might find the same size tub from Maxx with deeper water and less expensive.
