Damaged Window Sills
Comments (15)We bought the house two years ago. The p.o. had two large dogs who did the damage. I have called several companies in my area and do not even get a call back, or it's a no show. I am just fed up with getting someone in here to do the work, so I am considering trying to get the job done myself. And yes, it is just the stools that are damaged. All of the surrounding wood is in excellent condition. I did have one guy come and say replacing them might get complicated since the actual windows have been replaced with "tilt out" windows. He did not want the job! I am sure the stools are pine....See MoreMitered edge or Schluter Edge: What's better for a shower window sill
Comments (7)I wonder if I carve a little channel into the grout joint where it meets the wall if that will help somewhat? Where I have the red line marked. Maybe even raking away the grout build up there. The shower below is my own and me and my four girls all use this one shower. The grout takes a beating from cleaning but the shower niches do not hold water. In the large niche with the light I purchased a larger tile to ensure that the niche bottom was in one piece of tile. This is key I think for any shower sill or niche. If you are going to have grout lines less is more...See MoreExciting questions about window sills and drywall corners
Comments (26)That's what i thought I remembered and I don't see it as craftsman but as a warm NW contemporary style. Definitely glad you'r not going with bendy walls or rounded corners or whatever you want to call them. LOL. How far along are you? I want to see updates! Oh and when you're all done, maybe as a favor, you'll show your first efforts, your new plan and your brand new house? Your house really shows how working with a good design person you can have everything you need and in a way you might not have originally thought of....See MoreAdvice for Marble Window Sill Installation
Comments (28)Yes, you guys are very informative and I appreciate your input. I did not think about any of this stuff prior to purchase because I didn't know. Apparently there is a lot to bathroom design when remodeling and I made a lot of mistakes (which is duly noted if you're able to look up my prior posts). One thing to say is this isn't a million dollar home. It's a three bedroom ranch and the bathroom is quite small. So I tried to do this remodel on the cheap but have run into many issues because of that. It’s a cheap and cheesy undesigned approach that isn’t worthy of a well designed bathroom. It’s also usually the wrong size for a window stool, and has that dysfunctional bevel that needs cutting off to begin to fit. And other manhandling. Doing some measuring I can see now that butting it up to the window has the sill sticking out from the wall too far, so the back will need to be cut to reduce the ledge distance. Not sure how far is ideal but I reckon I can go by the other window sills in my house for an approximate size. The good thing is cutting it down will eliminate the bevel in the back. It’s a D level choice. An A level bath needs to be better. A well designed bathroom will have continuity between materials, and will use the right ones for the right job. And if that window is in the shower, there are much bigger issues. I wish I had known all of this before hand. The window is adjacent to the shower but not actually in the shower. You can actually see the edge of the shower in the last picture I posted which shows the proximity to the window....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
