I think keep the bathroom permanent decor neutral and add decals that suit the age of the kids . easily changed and if every resale is an issue remove them and be done. I might do those tiles in alaundry room for a bit of fun

Sheloves, unfortunately the master bath is pretty small too and we don't have room for a tub in there. We currently have a very narrow prison cell-like shower that we're trying to figure out how to work with.... definitely no room for a tub. There is a set of 3 large windows in the bedroom on the wall opposite the bathroom. We can't move the closet.... just not in the budget as it would requite redoing the hardwood floors, etc., which have just been recently refinished. The bedroom shown in the pictures is the largest of the kids bedrooms! The second floor is just not that large unfortunately.... we live in a city where they build up, not out. :-) If we had an unlimited budget I'd add a second floor extension but there is absolutely no way that can happen! Karen, I really like the layout you drew, but we can't move the toilet. We've asked them to make up some drawings pushing the bathroom out into the hallway, but not the closet, like what you have shown (without moving the toilet) but I think that option will be just as expensive AND we will still have a really narrow, cramped bathroom. I'll try to post some pics of current conditions!

I like J&Js; they do not have to lead to fights. Yes, they are more private than a hall bathroom, as the user doesn't have to go out into the hallway to reach the bathroom -- the user must coordinate only with the person in the next bedroom, not with the whole household. Regardless, I would not want the 28" door, much less the 24" door. I would make whatever changes are necessary to include a decent-sized door. An important detail, which someone above noted: At some point you're going to have to bring in/out materials, as bathrooms will wear out /things will need replacing one day. Even a 28" door is going to be small for getting in /out a tub or vanity.

@cevamal yeah vinegar would stain/ damage many plastic/ acrylic surfaces,  such as cultured marble. I would think that most alternatives to tile would also be succeptible to similar staining and scratching.   One thing to note about cultured marble is that it can be wet sanded and buffed, similar to a car,  in order to restore the finish.  This assumes there are not deep scratches you can feel with your fingers.
