I'm in Newport News, so my dates will be a bit earlier than yours, but my earlies bloom in mid April, midseasons in late April-early May, and lates are just finishing up now. Two good resources for you, depending on your exact location, would be to visit Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond (they have an amazing peony collection, including intersectionals, tree peonies, and herbaceous varieties) or Andre Viette's nursery in Fishersville (they have fields of labeled peonies in bloom in May), at the time for which you want a peony to bloom in your garden. You could then actually see what's in bloom at that exact time, and take it from there.

we have had over normal snowfall this winter. there is still a couple foot of snow on the fields with only a few bare spots under trees. But the pair of Lewis's woodpeckers are here early and the male is drumming on the light pole setting up his territory but the male and female are both coming to the feeders together so i don't think they are ready to start with the eggs. the juncos and chickadees and most of the winter birds are still here and usually leave about the later part of march to nest elsewhere. My orioles come mid april to late april to nest close bu usually 3 pairs. Most of the spring birds do not show up till mid april to mid may. and have not seen any of them yet.

Daniel, I have experienced very similar results this year in northern MN. All seeds were started at the same time, planted out at the same time, and treated the same. 2 of my early varieties (Glacier & Bloody Butcher) did beat Cherokee Purple, but only by 8 or 9 days. About 10 days after the 1st early small tomatoes, I picked a Giant Belgium that weighted 1# 8oz. At about 2 weeks after the earliest fruit, several 1# plus C.P. were being picked. The 1st fruit from my "Early Pick" variety were just starting about this same time. However, other large varieties, are very late. Mortgage Lifter, Black Krim, Super Steak, Super Beef Steak, are all very Sloooow. All plants are growing in the same conditions. This is the Giant Belgium that was only about 10 days behind to early little tomatoes: A very strange year.

I have had that happen to me this year with my Guacamole, which I have had since 2012. Last year it started dying off one leaf at a time around the middle of the summer. After reading something on the forum about repotting I was betting that it was due to my media breaking down. Sure enough, a month ago I repotted it and the media was packed so tightly that it took several minutes with a hose sprayer to break it apart. The big, thick roots are still there but the long, skinny roots were totally gone. I'm sure it was staying wet and wasn't draining. I learned my lesson about media breakdown. This year I have lots of pips but they are opening to tiny single leaves. I have no clue if it can recover but I'll see what happens. The bottom line is I'm thinking that there may be many things that cause them to come back smaller.
