Deck Landing supports

Rookie here. I plan on moving my stairs about 5 feet farther away from the house by attaching a 5ft by 5ft landing my deck. The purpose is to get a little more room between the house and stairs to put a hot tub. For the landing, I just need some guidance on how to support it. The 5ft by 5ft square landing I plan on building will be bolted to the existing deck. Should I use 2 posts and beam to support the rest of landing like existing deck or should I use two posts on the outside corners of the landing or do I need four posts, one at each corner of the landing? Any advice would be appreciated.

Build your landing with 4 posts, one at each corner of the new landing. Do not cantilever the new floor joists. Deck stairs should not attach to a deck cantilever. What you’re planning to do will greatly improve your deck.

Never heard of using fence post for a deck. I doubt it will be easier than 4x4's nor stronger. How would you attach the deck frame to those post? Good footings would be the key to keep the deck from sliding down the hill. Al

Suggestion: Do not build a roof deck. I live in a novel town house community now (moving soon) — first of its kind in the area, with roof decks. The first owners of the units sued the builder. The roof decks look great, were a great selling gimmick, but have caused lots of problems. Water problems. The builder used a lot of architects and engineers on this large multi-unit community and the buildings still leaked. As I recall, you are the funny guy building a house with many kitchens. Your roof deck will leak into your many bedrooms, and the water may make it down to your many kitchens. Don’t do it unless you enjoy grief.
