Help with GreatRoom: Window Coverings, TV Placement, sectional

Please stop and try and assist me😊Great Room needs window coverings, TV Placement, TV Stand or over fireplace, furniture placement advice welcome too. My big splurge was my super huge sectional I purchased prior to even seeing inside of home. It's got to stay.

Going for a Lake House look whatever that is, lol. I love luxurious drapes but not sure if they'll work here, color and if there is a budget friendly option because I am pushing it to spend anymore $. I don't know what material or even how to begin. Paint color is sw 7957 silverstrand. Thank you for reading and I am open to any and all comments.!

I'm not sure why so many people want sectionals when they're so difficult to place unless you have a huge room, and also make it more difficult to decorate a room nicely. You could have a couch, a chair against that short wall and either another chair or two, or even a love seat against the window wall and have just as much seating, if not more, and the room would look so much better. Even placing a rug is much more problematic with a sectional, not to mention end tables with lamps or even a coffee table. It's your decision of course, but perhaps you could give a little more thought about your choice and what it would involve in the overall look of the room. I'm also wondering, will there be a TV in this room? The distance from the opposite wall to the seating is much too far for optimal viewing, and you would be better off pulling your seating away from the wall, more toward the middle of the room. There again, a sectional would pose more of a problem.

No picture of your room. And that's a honking BIG sectional, and will not be flexible at all. You'd be better off with a sofa and chairs unless your room is huge.

Thanks everyone! I’ll definitely play with these ideas. Here are a few more pictures to give you a better context of our space. It is one large open concept living area downstairs with the kitchen and great room connected, with the dining room and entry way separated by pillars. Previously our L sectional couch was facing the window, but I lost the war on comfort and decided to bring in something more functional for seating company and our family. The couch is modular and I could make the long side along the window or I could try rotating the couch as our other one was previously, but I worry it would cut off the space too much. Thanks again for all you tips! I definitely agree we need new tables and lighting. Thoughts on window treatments, or leave it be?

I would leave the tv where it is, but add a long console. If you move the sofa forward a few inches it will look better.

Thank you! 🙂 I think that will help a lot as soon I get some help moving sofa. I had shoulder surgery so I'm a bit challenged moving stuff right now. Any suggestions on console?

Well if I had it to do over, i'd get a wall mounted one so it would be easier to clean.

Agree to leave TV where it is now. A console at 2/3the width of that wall. I really like your rug but the off white and blue with the white sofa and gray walls isn't working. The rug also needs to be larger. It should extend a foot on either side of the sofa. If you pull the sofa off the wall 6-8" you should be able to get luxurious drapes behind it. I would center the sofa on the windows and move the end table to the other end. Hoping those are the temporary paper construction shades. Replace with solar shades - inside mount if possible - hang the curtain rod 2/3 up the distance from top of window to crown molding and 12" wider than the 3 windows.

Thank you jck! The rug will be next year's project🙂 The shades are temporary paper ones! Love your ideas for hanging drapes. Thinking of white for draperies color but not sure. Sofa is more light ivory beige color. Thanks again!!

You can get a roller blind now and then add panels in the future. Looks like back yard view? So maybe a white solar shade will give you sun control + some view outside.

I like my white solar shades, and they do help on really bright days. I think you picked a lovely wall color.
