ping pong table as patio table?

Hi All,

We installed a patio in our yard last summer and expanded the garden beds. It looks pretty, but we don't have room for a fun activity in our yard other than sitting on the patio. (Our kids are 21, 19 and 13, and especially the 13-year-old would enjoy having friends over.) We have a lounge furniture set on one side of the patio and an empty space for a table on the other. My husband suggested getting an outdoor ping pong table for the empty side that could either double as a dining table (maybe with stackable chairs we pull out?) or fold up when we bring in a foldable dining table. Has anyone else tried this? If so, any particular tables to suggest? Tips?

PS Photo shows the lounge side of the patio, and the other side looks the same but is currently empty.

My outdoor ping pong table is no good as a dining table due to all the table legs and supports being in the way of people legs. Mine splits into two halves that fold up and can roll away easily (although it is heavy). That is nice feature but is part of the reason the table legs are in the way.

Be sure to compare features relating to storage. And if you're going to try to eat off it, check the legs. If it stores easily, it will probably have diner-unfriendly legs. :)

I suspect you'll want a regular dining table and a roll-away ping pong table.

I think that's a great idea. One like this outdoor ping pong table from Wayfair could double for dining.

My husband who had AZ had a brain scan and the result was part of his brain had atrophied. It could never get better, that part of his brain was dead. Nothing helps Alzheimer patients. The meds they give them are all experimental, never been proven to help.

I'd ditch the dining set and get a four chair "deep seating" set with a round table. Sometimes listed as "conversational sets". Maybe an ottoman or two. A deep seat chair and an ottoman? Definitely nappy-time. My wife bought a set of four chairs and a table years ago where the table has a removable center section so the table can be used as an occasional fire pit. We have a real fire pit, so we never use the table for that. It'll be better for relaxing, conversation, and if you want to eat out there, you can still do it. It's just a more informal setting for eating.

Try a stack of inverted fifteen gallon cans beside the wheel barrow to provide a small, but useful flat work area, Virginia. It's portable and permits you to move the soil and pots where they are needed instead of moving the larger cans to the table. But, a stationary table DOES make a lot of it easier!

My advice is just to make sure that what you chose is actually functional & not just aesthetic, as in that the pulley's actually work and are not just decorative.

I have seen these outdoor ping pong/dining tables in parks in CA - great idea! Cornhole is another fun family game - you can get custom boards made with your family's name on it - makes a great Father's Day gift

- also Ikea has great stackable outdoor chairs
