Comments (18)Why are you replacing with triple sliding with double (not single)? I am you have thought through this but.... What if you replaced it with standard single door with large glass area (since you have decided to bite the bullet and replace door and spend the money).... I think this will be fine since you have access to the "deck" from the sliding door in the living room. So you still have double access to the deck. Sliding double door versus single door has the exact same access width. The only difference is the amount of light coming in. I think you have enough light that you can do this. I would not do any uppers between the frig and sink to open up the room a little. You could move the frig to that wall, so you have frig, sink, then range on the L going from left to right. This will give you more landing around the stove. I think you will still have enough room for a table in the eating area. Visually, if you are running the cabinets to the ceiling, you need trim that is as wide if not slightly wider than the stiles of the cabinets. Even if the crown is simple in detail, you still need a little more "weight" to balance the cabinets than what is drawn. If you want more modern clean line look (which would not look good with your 6 panel doors), then you can use slab or very plain doors with minimal trim....See MoreNeed help on designing a kitchen/dining area
Comments (3)For just throwing it together, the first one is a good basic layout. I might put a tall pantry to the left of the fridge, and make sure the DW goes to the right of the sink. And move one of the stools to the short end, to make the island seating a little more sociable. Are you using a range, or cooktop and separate ovens? What's behind the sink wall? Any way to include windows on that wall?...See Morehelp design a kitchen/dining room with 4 doors
Comments (9)Mama's second plan is genius!! With all of the doors and entries, you have lots of light!! Just not a direct window. Use a mirror behind the sink. I would think about moving the fridge to the left of the sink as you are facing it. If the family room is used the most, you will have lots of people traipsing thru the kitchen for a drink. Since there is no pantry and you have accessible seating nearby, I would forgo seating at the island and have back to back cabinets for storage. I would also think about moving the trash to the island. Again, depends on how many people will be getting into the trash while you are at the sink. I am not a big fan of prep sinks in islands. They take up a lot of space, need more plumbing and take up valuable countertop space. Make sure you have a minimum of 42" between the cabinets and the island. 48" is better. I love that she put the microwave separate from the range. Her plan lets you have lots of "helpers" in the kitchen without everybody in everybody's way. Remember, kitchen organization is fridge to sink to stove. Work triangles are great but work stations can be better....See MoreNeed Help!! Modern/Industrial Design for Condo (Living/Dining space)
Comments (2)Congratulations! It looks like a fantastic property :) When buying a new home, especially a first home, it is best to move in first before making changes. It is amazing how much living in the space for a while (six to 12 months) gives you a different approach to what you want to change. Try it, at least for a few months. BTW, love the live edge table. Be aware that scale is important. It is easy to buy furniture of any type that is too large so make sure to keep your dimensions with you so you don't make a purchase that is too large for the space....See Moremagic1001
