Is this Olivia Rose Austin
Comments (79)Yes. I am new to gardening. This is actually my first year with all my flowers. I decided on David Austin roses because of their beautiful cup shape. My daughter's name is Austin and she gets a kick out of having roses with her name. ORA is her favorite because it is pink. Lol!! I also have Jude the Obscure. So far both are far exceeding my expectations. Jude is definitely more robust and the scent is heavily even in its first year. I planted both in early May....See MoreChlorosis on my two Olivia Rose Austin
Comments (6)They look really hungry! I think repotting them is a good idea. I grow about 10 roses in pots including some big ones-- Jude the Obscure and Sunshine Daydream. I feed them with fish emulsion every 3 weeks. Your roses will improve faster if you spray the foliage with fish emulsion solution. I also work Rose Tone or Holly Tone into the top of the soil once or twice a year. When I top dress my beds with compost, I also top dress the roses in pots and then top it off with mulch. Still, I expect they'll need to be repotted in fresh soil every other year or so, Blood meal has the highest nitrogen content and is quick-acting but once the rose has developed its feeder roots all the way to the edge of the pot it's too late to use it since it is so likely to burn the roots. Others may weigh in here; I've just not tried it....See MorePrincess Charlene de Monaco or DA Olivia Rose Austin Rose
Comments (16)I have both and I'm in zone 5, but I can't tell you about hardiness since they're both new roses for me this year. In general, I wouldn't worry about Olivia Rose being hardy in zone 5/6, since it's a rare Austin that doesn't survive that zone. Princess Charlene got my warmer spot of the yard just in case, but she looks like she has a good shot at winter survival. Like others have posted, she's already much bigger than Olivia in her first year. Not the 8' that you get in California, but she might get to chest height in a year or so which for me is really big. She's so far a middle of the bed rose, but not small like Olivia. Like others, I'm no help on fragrance, and Olivia hasn't bloomed in her first year as many of my new roses don't get that far in their first summers. Cynthia...See MoreOlivia Rose Austin in mini vase
Comments (11)Main St, She is disease resistant! The only time I had trouble with black spot was when I was in Virginia (she was in a pot when I got her) and there was a horrible summer with 2 months full of rain! She was also definitely not getting enough sun. Back then she looked really wimpy. Last year where I am currently at we had a similar rainy season, but she was still the first to bloom and black spot was not an issue. Some of the others like Queen of Sweden had blackspot. The two first pictures are Olivia Rose Austin last year and the third is Queen of Sweden (you can see a little bit of the blackspot) both same year same conditions!...See MoreArtist-FKA-Novice Zone 7B GA
