Where to put heat pump

Hi Everyone! We are having a few heatpumps installed in our home and one will be installed in this living room.
Option 1: put it above the picture
Option 2: put in to the left of picture and up on wall, above corner shelf area. I just can't picture it above picture...
Please help lol

If you put it above the picture it will blast down on the couch making it uncomfortable for sitting.

Geothermal might be doable here, but you'll need a pro to tell you for sure. A three ton geothermal might need 8-10 gpm, sometimes around the clock. Pumping from the ground might well cost as much as running the heatpump itself, if you have to lift water very far. Open loop systems such as these can be marginal (I have one.) Is the lake large? If it's big enough and doesn't freeze solid it might be possible to circulate lake water. This would be especially attractive if your home and the lake are roughly level to each other. In that case you would trench below the frost line from the house to the lake and lay pipe running both ways, and your main pumping issues would be overcoming friction rather than lifting- an order of magnitude cheaper. It may be possible to lay coils in the lake, in which case it is a closed loop system, and that could be very worthwhile. Again, it'll take an on-site inspection by a qualified professional to tell you for sure, but it's at least worth checking into. You'd have to pull the top cover to see what I am talking about, but you don't have to pull the cover to install an air vent. The reason I say about the air vent is because I recently installed an auxillary boiler in my garage and its air vent was at the ceiling, the highest point in the house. Everyday I would hear the air going through the pipes, yet the air vent never bled it out. I finally realized that is was the air in the dome of the boiler and I bled alot of it out through the pressure relief valve that day. Everyday I crack the valve and a tiny bit of air still comes out, but the system is now whisper quiet. As long as you have circulation, your air scoop and air vent will bleed out the air. And any that is trapped in the dome of the boiler can be handled as I explained above.

The basement can not exchange heat quickly enough compared to a ground loop. It will get very hot down there in the summer and freeze everything solid in the winter. Open loop systems will have maintenance problems, corrosion or scaling, that closed loop systems do not unless the water quality is perfect. The rates of water withdraw and injection might be problematic. (What is the pumping rate of a typical residential well vs. what you need for a heat pump?) You might have environmental permit issues with "waste" water injection into the ground water.

Wow, a 30 year-old heat pump. I thought that my 21 year-old Trane was a stretch. A 20 degree split temperature is more typical measured at just before the evap coil and just after it (not at the registers). These are the locations where the temps must be taken to calculate the split temp. If it is very humid in the house, the split temp will be less as the coil is removing humidity which takes energy. If your compressor is original, you've probably lost some capacity to cool/heat from leaking valves. Make sure that your filter is clean as well as the evap coil. Checking supply/return ducts for leakage is also a good idea. As far as heating temps, in Feb '06, I measured 88 degree air coming out of the closest register when it was 71 degrees inside the house and 30 degrees outside. This was with my 21 year-old Trane Weathertron heat pump. The Technical Information Manual for my new 14 SEER Goodman heat pump shows a Delta T of 27 degrees at 40 degrees outside, 23 degrees at 30 outside, and 20 degrees at 20 outside temp. The numbers are based on 70 degree inside air, so air coming out of the air handler will range from be 90 to 97 degrees. The Copeland scroll compressor in the new unit may contribute to the high temps of the heat pump. Best of luck to you.

They make ducted systems for those now. More money, I'm sure, but maybe an option to consider.

Unfortunately no not with the layout of our home. We are putting one in basement and one in this living room and we're only given to placement options :( he said if it was above the picture that you can control where the air goes and wouldn't necessarily draft on the people sitting on couch but visually I can't decide which option looks better.

Where I love the heat pumps are outside and then the vneting runs into each room what you are showing is AC for a retro fit in our area I have decided to not go that route in my house . I think more like they do in hotels would be my choice so lower and wall mounted maybe under the window

I wish it could go above window but he said it isn't a big enough space for it.. unfortunately those are my only two options:(

They are very common where I live and are much cheaper than baseboard heat. Mine is in a corner of the room. Is it ugly ?? - yes, but it works, lol. Does a good job with A/C in the summer too.

Well it's installed... I kind of wish I centred it but what can you do. Is there anything I can do to the right half of the room to make it not cause so much attention to that area?
