Looking for tree recommendation for backyard

Hello, Looking for recommendations for a tree for the backyard. there used to be small Rhode there but it died last year.

Better a evergreen tree. what would you plant there if this is a 5 million dollar house?

If you are asking about a tree to put into the red circle in your picture, unless I have miss interpreted the space, there are nearly no trees that should be put there. You don't have space for a tree like a maple, oak, beach, etc. Most of the flowering trees like cherries, crabapple, etc, will out grow the space. Japanese maples are small, but ones that are about 20 years old will be 15' to 20' in diameter.

SO you choices are limited to dwarf lilacs, nadina, Spirea, etc. and other shrubs that can be kept small.

For instance "visual appeal" = what, specifically, to you? Thanks 10-15 feet 'Marina' will get a lot bigger than that in your climate. With one in the Marina (hence the cultivar name) district there being over 40 ft. tall some years ago. In one published sizing system I know that height range (10 ft.+) = large shrub. (With small tree being 15-35 ft.).

Thank you laceyvail and cearbhaill. Unfortunately the dirt area is part of the dog's running route. Down the middle of the yard, around the pine tree and along the fence line, which is why we were thinking of some sort of hardscape additions, with adequate drainage, but then realized the root areas would be problematic. Fencing off beds is possible. While she runs like crazy, she is not an agile jumper and 18" of fencing deters her. We could add the platform deck (mainly over the existing patio) and some additional planting beds (not in the main running path) to improve the look while leaving the dirt paths (add wood mulch/cedar chips) to make it a bit cleaner. If hardscape is not a good idea and grass or ground cover won't tolerate a dog, it may be our best option. Thx!

no tree stops growing at some magical height .... tree time is counted in decades ... if a tree will be 12 to 20 feet tall in one decade.. in 2.. it will be double .. and thats probably why you see all those overly tall trees in your area... you might be better off showing us the yard.. and let us make suggestions ... ken

This is in seattle. yes agree some trees might be too big when fully grown. How about camelia? small, evergreen, beautiful flowers

Not even enough room for a camellia! They will get far too wide for that very narrow site. Maybe something like a Sky Pencil holly or a Wilma Goldcrest lemon-lime cypress
