Baseboards removed for hardwood install, trouble reinstalling baseboar

bookreply
last year

We took off most of the baseboards in our house to have unfinished hardwood installed. They have been stored in the garage for about 4-5 weeks. Now we're finding baseboards are all about 1/16" too long to reinstall and figure they probably swelled slightly because it has been rainy and humid here for the last few weeks.

We can cut a little off the end of each baseboard and reinstall, but am wondering if we do that, once the air conditioner is back on, will they shrink a bit and have gaps where they are caulked?

Or should we bring the baseboards inside and let them sit for a few days (or weeks?) in the air-conditioning to acclimate? Will they shrink a bit and fit where they used to?

House is 19 years old, so they were in place for 19 years.
