Small Blue Agave :)

Growing about 7-8" tall and up to about 10" across, this plant multiplies to make a nice mound over time. Does well in part shade. I believe they are the Baja dwarf variety.

Can someone advise about a plant swap in the north Phoenix/Scottsdale area or way to sell or trade these? My stand outgrew it's position so I had to divide and conquer, leaving me with lots of really nice full size plants as well as plenty of smaller ones. Pictured below are some of the full-size plants.

That is not A. potatorum, a non-surculose mid-sized agave. That looks like A. 'Confederate Rose'.

Given your location, it might be asking too much to sell them (it's a very common Agave in the area that you live in), but there's no harm trying.

ChasingCenturies, I read up on the variety Confederate Rose and it seems different from what I have. Can you point me to a resource for making a more definitive identification?

Nice forum ChasingCenturies, and good to see that it's active. I found a thread discussing a comparison of the A. Confederate Rose with the A. potatorum Cameron Blue. Someone provided links to pics and mentioned the distinctive mamilliate leaf margins of A. potatorum. Does the Confederate Rose not have a Latin species name?

No it's a cultivar, and no one seems to know the pedigree with any certainty. It may be related to A. isthmensis, but a connection to A. potatorum seems unlikely. I can tell you CR has been around for quite a while now, perhaps 10-15 years.

Trying to find more info on this, I read an ebay seller's description that states that it is "believed to be a hybrid, possibly a cross of Agave parrasana and Agave Parryii." I looked up A. isthmensis which seems to bear a familial resemblance to the CR I have.

I'm watching this post with interest due to having the same problem myself a few years ago. We decided that mine was A. potatorum but was gifted as Confederate Rose?

It bares great similarity to A. Tradewinds.
