Thanks for the info Patty S. It's ironic, but this summer all the way through the middle of August I was in Bakersfield every week from Monday through Thursday. I wasn't looking for a tree back then of course! I always thought that Bakersfield was supposed to be hotter than the Fresno area, but this summer every time I looked it was cooler. I enjoyed my stay in BK. Maybe I'll ask my sister-in-law to bag one and bring one up the next time they come up here!

Where can I buy canning salt and pickling spices?

I picked up an entire selection of pickling spices - Bay leaves, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, celery seeds, dill seeds, Jamaican Allspice, black peppercorns, Szechuan peppercorns, red pepper flakes, yellow mustard seed, and curry powder - at a health food store yesterday. The only item on my list that they didn't have was brown mustard seed. There's a larger health food store on the other side of town. I'll to there for those seeds and the Kosher salt. Everything was so very fresh, in bulk, and sooo much cheaper than I would have paid for the jarred spices at a grocery store. My tomatoes here in North Dakota are just starting to come on with small green tomatoes. I plan on making several batches of these four versions of pickled green tomatoes. Just be careful, because the cheap stuff bends. Ask me how I know. Good barn doors are heavy, and so if you've got a "good" barn door on your hands, bite the bullet and buy good quality hardware. Otherwise you can end up with a very pretty barn door that won't slide open/closed. Again, ask me how I know.....

Darren, Do you have any insight on hidden hinges? I have a 33 yr old set of bifold doors with hinges that fold back to 180 degrees in the fully opened position. They’re terrific! I’d just like to replace this outermost hardware so I don’t see the hinges on the jambs when the doors are completely closed. Do they make such a product? Thanks for your reply, Jamie
