Help with dated front door and arched window
Comments (33)Thanks ptreckel and all!!! It was definitely worth it. The Provia door was about 10k, then the portico build, new window, rock repair work about 20k. So for about 30k it made a big difference and I would def do it again....See MoreNeed coordinated update of 1972 Ranch!
Comments (8)Open area is the living room; top door way goes to front entry, right opening goes to family/TV room; bath is adjacent to spare bedroom next to entry. This shows the possible kitchen expansion onto back patio; creating a breakfast bar and more work counters . The new island could be “L” or rectangle; we would remove existing bathroom door into guest bath and use door next to toilet as preferred entrance (it is now an exterior door coming in from back yard) such a small living room/kitchen with low ceiling make it really dark, i move furniture constantly to improve flow; furniture style is “estate sale eclectic”🤣 I can post more pics or house plan . Thanks for your help!!!...See MoreEliminate arched windows
Comments (2)I am not a fan of arched windows, so I can understand why you want to replace them. I think a large rectangle will be too much. Maybe on about a foot and a half high would look better....See MoreIs it hard to change/update exterior arches to more modern look?
Comments (8)I don't think the arches can be changed much either. Looks like your balcony might be around 4 feet deep, maybe 5? It's kind of hard to tell, but your balcony furniture looks substantial enough for that depth. Are the shadows on the end walls indicating openings in the walls, or shadows of other? What do you want from that space? Do you often use the space? Prefer to leave it open, or open to closing it up with windows? Is that solid railing for privacy, or are you OK with it being more exposed? If it's for privacy, there can be more modern options. If not, it should still go. If they are in good shape, consider painting your window and door frames and trim to match. A lot of more modern treatment has all of it being one color instead of light framed in dark. If they aren't in good shape, now might be the time to consider replacement. While you are thinking about the tops of the arches, also consider the bottoms of them. The garage doors. Those could use a fresh painting at least. Also, if you change the railing up top, consider the railing down the stairs. Right now the two different styles are not helping bringing it together as a whole look. Your lighting is also rather traditional, and could be swapped out for something more modern....See MoreKym F
