I like the color you have, but would paint the addition the same color.

Highlight the entrance with some accent colors, trim up the foliage and change out the light fixtures, if you need a change.

Is the new roof really black? Charcoal grey? I really like the current colors of your home.

Black is too dark for a roof color. I guess you could have a black roof, get black replacement windows and paint the exterior white for a modern farmhouse look, but that is a very specific look that probably won't wear well for the next 20-30 years your roof will last. Just choose one of the two colors you already have on the exterior, paint the one to match the other and keep the same roof color.

That is a beautiful, classic house. I also like the current color but a more blue-ish green, a gray-ish blue, a buckskin tan, and even dark red are all traditional & classic colors for that style. The addition does need to match.

Are you sure that you want a black roof? Black really does increase heat absorption in the summer but doesn't seem to help much in winter. I really noticed the difference after I changed from black to weathered wood, which would look nice on your house and goes with many siding colors ( a brownish gray version - other brands might be more grayish-brown).

Is the house cedar shake on the left, clapboard on the right? How old is the house?

Hmm, well, assuming that you don't want to paint the cedar, I think that I would do a gray that matches the weathered cedar, or a blue gray that makes a gentle segue from the cedar part. With gray or blue, you can do white trim with a white door, or paint the trim and door surround black or even navy.

I would not try to match the cedar to the clapboard in color. They are two different materials altogether and the dependency has its own distinct character from the main massing of the house.

Interesting difference between this forum and the Building a Home Forum where everyone wants five different materials applied in patchwork on their house so it isn't "boring" and here, two different materials are apparently "too much".
