Comments (2)Congrats on your new house! You may want to look at pictures on Houzz for some inspiration. Then you'll be able to decide how you want to use the space and whether it's something you can execute or if you need to hire a landscape architect for help with the design. When it comes time to choose plants, information about your climate will be important. You may also want to get a soil test done....See Morephoenix exterior paint and landscaping help!
Comments (7)The best Arizona colors are usually medium and light desert tones like brown, beige and tan which can reflect heat and UV rays and hide the ever present dust. Finding the right one can be tricky, though, since some can look pretty bad in certain light. I would talk with your HOA, if you have one, and with the paint store or even the neighbors if there is a house that you think looks particularly good. Since your yard is a blank slate, I would speak with a landscape company to come up with a plan that can be implemented over time, if necessary, using cacti and boulders and some carefully chosen native trees like mesquite and paloverde....See MoreHouse Paint Colors and Landscaping Help!
Comments (12)Is it real brick under the shutters? Have you ever spoken to a pro about whether what's there could be repaired to allow you to remove the shutters? It's too bad the previous owners didn't leave behind -- if they ever had them, a complete set of bifolds that would actually been usuable in protecting that window, unfolding across the whole arch space when shut. But if this is all you have to work with and no chance of repairing what's underneath, I'd consider painting the shutters the same shade as the brick or possible something close to black to match the window. Before I did any of this I would use paper or cardboard or painted foam board and tape it up onto the shutters to see what color looked good. Maybe it should be the same color as the garage doors and posts. Just decide after other works is finished....See MoreLandscape help, please.
Comments (11)I don't quite understand what you mean by two layers. That said, I like Liatris. It will make a nice contrast in shape and color to your coralberries. In general, you want to focus on a rhythm, rather than lines. I might punch up the Liatris with a hot pink echinacea. For spring color, you can add moss phlox and bulbs. In general, I think you just need more plants....See MoreJennifer Adams
