funny how since 11/7 no one commented on this! guess no one grows these 2 varieties. so now it's 3/21 and i have eaten a few cloves of each and i have a different opinion and i am glad i planted what i did. french pink are not storing as well as nootka rose but all these were separated looking for the largest cloves to plant. you should store garlic in bulbs not single cloves so maybe this is why the fp is showing signs of storage. it is slightly off from the white flesh of last fall and many cloves have brown spots. the taste is not so hot (as in burning my mouth) and does have flavor. so all in all not too bad. the nr has stored better some are hot some are not too bad and the taste is good. not sure what i'll do in the fall as to planting these again cuz i grew 5 or 6 varietes and all taste like - GARLIC so not sure if all the varieties i planted last fall make a whole lot of sense, we'll see come august and september. neither fp or nr have sprouted which is more than i can say for music! it stored ok but many have been spouting for the past few weeks tho many still have not. i found that if you peel the cloves and freeze then they are fine after thawing so when your garlic starts to head down hill freeze it. tom

Hey Cindee, I am so behind on this Forum that I can't even catch my breath to read up everything and reply sometimes when the urge comes. We can exchange tomato seed lists. I compiled a quite extensive collection by now, and new ones are always welcomed. Why do I have to go OCD on everything? I bought so much seeds that I could plant a whole acre full of tomatoes and still have leftovers... I can't help it. The success of the beginning just made me dizzy, and when I tasted Better Boy, I wanted to grow more, then when the first Green Zebra ripened, I floored eating my caprese... Not to mention all the little ones that we gobbled up with breakfast: Sun Gold, Yellow Pear, etc. Then there are the weirdoes, like Spreckled Roman... Now, there is no return. I am laying gopher cages for next year, and overdo tomatoes again, even though I am running out of space for amaryllis as well. I don't know why I decided to collect amaryllis bulbs, but I know why I started to grow tomatoes by the dozen: to eat them up! Oh, and your Vanilla Orchid started to grow just NOW. It was sitting in the pot exactly as I planted it, grean, uninterested in doing anything for a year, and now, it is growing a new branch. At the same time, your phylodendron went crazy, and now covers everything around it with its leaves. I'm glad that I could keep some of your gifts alive. Thank you. So let me know if you think you could use a few tomato seeds of varieties you might not have yet.

In previous years I have coddled my tomato babies and used different contraptions to protect them from inclement weather. I usually have great success. This year, I can barely spare 5min away from my baby girl to sneak into the garden to see how the maters are doing. They aren't doing so great. So, from my original list, I have had to do a few replacements with whatever I could find from the "big box" stores or local plant sales. 1.Great White (need a beefsteak) UPDATE - DEAD 2.Purple Calabash (hoping for taste since I liked purple prince) UPDATE - 1 barely alive (Jbox) 3.Green Sausage (novelty) UPDATE - DEAD 4.Purple Prince (LOVE the taste) UPDATE - DEAD 5.Polish Linguisa (need a paste!) UPDATE - Pretty sure it will be dead when I get home today. 6.Black Cherry (hoping for taste and early) UPDATE - Really DEAD 7.Sungold (last year sucked, give it another chance) UPDATE - One of 4 tomatoes I had in 2 J-Boxes(Josho) that is alive 8.Stupice (early) UPDATE - Not sure actually. Suckers are forming where the original branches were sunburned and windwracked (Jbox) 9.SilveryFirTree (for the foliage) UPDATE - I give it 45% survival chance at this stage 10.Oxheart (need a regular red!) How about the bicolors? I seem to recall seeing pics of some bicolors that had some pink-ier aspects to them. Northern Lights maybe? ***** Nope. I don't think so. Most of those are gold/pink:red bicolors and the exterior pink is not prominent. There are a few that color up almost entirely, I think I have Mary Robinson in mind, but that exterioe color is reddish, not pink. (I agree, the Gogotha pics I can find look good. It's darker than a strawberry milkshake pink, but it looks good.) Looking at photos is OK to a point, but the only way to know the true color, in any one season, is to grow it. And I say anyone season b/c from season to season, and based on how folks grow their tomatoes as in what amendments, as well as weather, there CAN be color differences for the same variety. (Weird idea: What would you get if you crossed a white tomato with a pink tomato, let it sort itself out for a couple of generations? Great White x Gogotha?) Who knows what you'd get after making some selections. LOL Why don't you look at Big White Pink Stripes first? ( smile) Carolyn, who notes that she's seen the variety Dr, Carolyn as baby pink to adolescent pink to a senior citizen darker pink in various seasons. Sigh.
