We have used brick of multi colors. When we built our house this was not the color of brick that I wanted but another couple were building a house across the street at the very same time and as it turned out we had unknowingly picked out the very same brick that I still pine for and love to this day. It was called something romantic like "white rose tudor". Funny, I can't even remember the name of our brick, but I can still remember the name of their brick!. It would bring tears to your eyes it's so beautiful. I look out the front window and see my house sitting over there, complete with the trim color I was going to use as well. It's funny you posted this today because I was just thinking how I should have used that brick anyway since it was my first choice and the people only lived there a few years and sold it to retire in Florida. I remember how it was a big deal and that I thought the right thing to do was to acquiesce since their house was a little further along than ours and I could still change our brick before it was delivered. I did this with deep regret and sorrow and honestly I don't think they had any idea how much it pained me to give up that brick. We will most likely be here until we die since we are quite a bit younger than the retired couple. It's not like it's the end of the world but you do want to like what you chose and not just because you had to come up with a second choice instantly because your builder needs to order something different. I didn't HAVE to but it would have been weird to have two such distinctive new brick houses with the exact same brick and trim color directly across the street from each other. OK so it's pathetic that I still lament nearly ever day when I see that gorgeous house and know that is exactly what I wanted for my own house. What are the odds? It's not like it was a developer's subdivision with only a few choices. We're in a metro area of millions of people and one small subdivision where everyone hired their own builder, bought their own house plan and bought their own lot and picked out everything from A to Z from separate vendors and building suppliers. It's eerie! How could this happen??? Just so you all know, I'm very thankful for my home and am very fortunate to have it but this is just in answer to the question!!!

Here are some suggestions... 1. Situate the door so that it faces the driveway, remove the deck on the right side and replace the existing door with a matching window. 2. Build a small porch over the door, and change the siding underneath the porch and to the left side to be millwork and/or board and batten. The change-up in siding is for visual interest. Make the stone steps and floor extend to the left beyond the porch. 3. Add windows to the side of the house facing the driveway. Make sure they are large enough. Black windows would look nice with a mostly white house...kind of gives it a modern farmhouse feel. Make sure the millwork around the windows is generous and matches the style of the house. The four in the back of the upper storey line up on the leading side of the three on the first storey. The windows to the right follow suit, but in reverse. The matched off-numbered windows add architectural interest. 4. Add larger windows to the right upper storey of the house. 5. Landscape. Define where the driveway stops and the sidewalk to the door starts. Add a stone planter...it complements the brick. Build a boulder retaining wall to help manage the hill to the left of the driveway. Add greenery to soften the amount of pavement. Replace the driveway with pavers and pea gravel. Of course these are all suggestions, and this could be accomplished over time to spread the spend. It could look like this...

Most of the photography is done using a wide angle lens - making the place look a lot larger than it really is. Kitchen - if there were two of me, it would be impossible for both of us to cook. (I am not used to being an only cook - although I am happy to do so on special occasions, just not nightly.) My pantry has also helped me see through COVID. I am impressed with the insulation work. I am glad the bedroom is on the same level as the bath. Anything else (hey, I'm retired - I get up at one or two every morning to exercise my bladder - no stairs, and ESPECIALLY no ladder!) would not be acceptable for me. Alone or as a partner. It will all depend on how much you two want to pare down your belongings, and I mean that genuinely. If one is downsizing for the sake of another, expect future trouble. I subscribe to the YouTube channel, Living Large in a Tiny House - even though I have no desire to do so, I do get great ideas and I respect those who are trying to make that concept work. (And the guy who hosts that channel has a really restful voice.)

Just changing the front door and garage doors to MCM style will make a huge statement. Your front doors are lovely, but don’t match your house (so that does add the “traditional” feel you keep mentioning). Stick with wood if you don’t mind the upkeep. I’m sure they’re easy to find. Have you thought about changing the exterior color as Hallett and Co. suggested? A dark charcoal,with new MCM doors, would immediately say “this is a mid-century house” because it will emphasize the lines of the house better.
