You can easily triple the storage capacity of that area: With shelving - go all the way to the ceiling with it. The top-most shelf can be deeper than the others if you size it to fit light-weight but large items, like packs of toilet tissue or stockpots. 1 - Install a shallow set of shelves (4 or 6") across the back of the closet, above the tallest adult's shoulder level. Hang a folding step stool below the shelves. Use as pantry 2 - Add shelves above the current sets, so you aren't stacking boxes like the previous owner. That's prime storage space for the things you don't use every day, like huge pots 3 - Find a roll-out cart that can hold at least two laundry baskets and store it between the appliances. That should give you plenty of ideas....See Morecloset help needed
Comments (2)It doesn't matter what it looks like. You are trying to get the most storage space that fits your needs. And your husband's needs, which may be different. One may need more hanging space, while the other tends to fold and stack clothing. I have used the RubberMaid FastTrack system for my closets. It allows for maximum flexibility. They sell closet kits, but instead, I design the closet the way I want it and then buy the pieces separately. Generally speaking, what you have in mind sounds like a good idea. You should be able to put a shelf above the top rod for additional storage....See MoreElectricity and cables in wall closet
Comments (2)Right. I agree. My question is how to coordinate the cabinetmaker and electrician. Who goes first and how is it decide what the design will be? Or do you think the cabinet makers solution of getting to outlets through the clothing drawers and using extension cords is safe and workable?...See MoreHow much does a floorplan design cost (bedroom bathroom closet)
Comments (3)If you post the current layouts with detailed measurements and any must-haves, nice-to-haves, etc, you can get a lot of great advice here from professionals and other folks with talent in design. You may have difficulty finding someone who will do a plan for you who is not also involved in doing the work. Or you may be able to find a designer who'll do a plan for a set fee. Just remember when you start remodeling anything, there are always 1000 decisions and problems that pop up along the way. Are you prepared to deal with that as a DIYer?...See MoreAnnastasia Bee
