Selling large sets of China??
Comments (53)Amy just a couple of things. In the state and Estate sales mean different things. The company made many patterns so without knowing the pattern unless someone just wanted dinnerware unlikely to find a buyer on here. Especially if the buyer was in another state because of shipping charges. It is also bad form to tack a selling post on an older posting especially one that is ten years old. You might want to repost as a new comment and include a picture of the dinnerware. One piece showing the pattern will probably be enough. Because of the way things are you may have to post the picture in a second comment. Too many spammers this past year reawakening dead threads for most of the regulars to even look. Comments (5)The link is for an English pottery that advertises a bone china chop plate - I think it has a rim but it's hard to tell on my monitor. Also, google turns up a lot of rental places that use 12" platters in bone china by Mikasa so they are out there. Here is a link that might be useful: from England...See MoreNo Market for China Anymore? Advice Needed
Comments (21)"She's not trying to get rich, but I think she'd like it to go to someone who really will treasure it and does not want to just leave it at Goodwill. It is a full service for 8 with platters, gravy boat, etc." Leafy, I'm feeling crabby today-fair warning! I always get a bit impatient at this kind of attitude because the bottom line is SHE DOESN'T WANT IT EITHER. Having read some pop psychology :), I'm familiar with the mindset that any possession is intrinsically viewed as having value simply due to one's ownership. It does seem to apply here. I mean, if this was such a wonderful treasure wouldn't she just keep the china herself? And if she is downsizing and deciding she doesn't treasure it enough to keep, then who cares what happens to it? I find this such a frustrating attitude, and I am guilty of it myself. The whole 'it's too good to throw out' or 'someone should value it since it's so special--just not me' or 'there's plenty of use left' or 'it cost X, I can't just give it away'. Arrghhhhh...source of way, way too much clutter and useless stuff piled up in our homes. Ok, taking my crabby bad self offline now. Hope I didn't offend everyone too badly. Comments (6)Local quality auctions? Google the manufacturer and see who's selling it, and what sort of prices it's getting. I'm looking for a quality dinner set in Spode or Wedgwood, or similar, and the prices are all over the place depending on desirability. Did you try Craigslist? Stick a high price on it and see what happens ......See Moregrapefruit1_ar
