Selling large sets of China??
Comments (53)Amy just a couple of things. In the state and Estate sales mean different things. The company made many patterns so without knowing the pattern unless someone just wanted dinnerware unlikely to find a buyer on here. Especially if the buyer was in another state because of shipping charges. It is also bad form to tack a selling post on an older posting especially one that is ten years old. You might want to repost as a new comment and include a picture of the dinnerware. One piece showing the pattern will probably be enough. Because of the way things are you may have to post the picture in a second comment. Too many spammers this past year reawakening dead threads for most of the regulars to even look. Good luck getting rid of it....See MoreSimplifying My Life: Selling Crystal and China
Comments (11)cupofkindness, I just went through this too. Parted with 2 sets of dishes, grandmas and moms silver and and many other things. If you have time, Craigslist or Ebay can be useful, if you don't want to mess around and just want them gone, search for dealers in your area who will give you a price for the whole lot at once. I could have made a lot more money if I'd sold my items piece by piece but it would have taken a very long time and for each piece there is the advertising, photos, placing ads and if on ebay dealing with the commissions, mailing each item as soon as It is paid for, and of course answering all queries in a timely manner. I was under time constraints, we had the house for sale and planned to move as soon as possible. I got a dealer who was willing to pay a bit more than garage sale prices, actually got bids from 3, took the highest one, and it was all gone in a week. To me it was worth it to be out from under 7 pallets of accumulated collections and other vintage items. You might also consider donating your pieces to a charity resale shop of some sort and taking it as a tax deduction if you are in a tax bracket where such a thing would be useful. My things no longer own me, and it has been a freeing experience to move so many items on. Instead of waiting until I pass to give special pieces to family, I gave them to them now, and will have the pleasure of seeing them enjoy them. best wishes....See MoreNeed to sell fine China
Comments (46)I have so enjoyed reading all of this, even though, I, as usual, didn't notice it was old. I am old now too! I have never had or wanted that super expensive China, sterling, etc. Not my type. But years ago I fell in love with Depression Glass and antique furniture. My spare time was mostly spent at local public auctions. Most all the furniture in our home was bought at those auctions. When I moved to the Independent Retirement Community, years after my DH's death, I had to have an auction. Now I'm still using many of those auction pieces that I bought, after giving my DD her grandmother's bed, and 2 large pieces that my DGD wanted and I no longer had room for. *Note to nanny 98* Me, too. I have my will written so that each of my 3 grands will receive a same amount, but each the same percentage, of cash $$, that is left at that point. My DD and I have decided that what ever is still in the house will be picked up by a certain old reliable local estate sale, auction business. They will come, pick up, and even wrap the "dust catchers," glass ware, and other small things, and my kids won't have to worry about that; plus, I won't have to watch those things being carried away from here. That amount will be added to the other above mentioned cash, and divided between my two children. My burial expenses are pre-paid. I've said all that to say this: DON'T PUT OFF WRITING YOUR WILL!!...See MorePerfect Table Setting~ Chargers for vintage China?
Comments (24)Not sure about the red or black. Black would disappear into your lovely dark wood tabletop. The plates are really beautiful and need a charger that will enhance without stealing the show. If they were mine (and I wish they were!) I would be tempted to use either a pewter charger or antiqued mirror. You can find mirror chargers for a pretty good price and antique them yourself, if you're crafty. Pewter may seem like an odd pairing with the gold rim, but I think silver and gold look lovely together, especially in a holiday setting. Pewter need not be blackened or heavy looking. Pewter will set off the gold rim too, unlike a gold charger where the rim will not be allowed to shine (literally and figuratively). It looks nice with glassware and flatware. And pewter is an investment that can become a family heirloom. Pewter can be used with virtually any china, regardless of pattern/color. I will most definitely invest in pewter chargers someday. I inherited 2 different sets of china from my grandmother (nothing fancy but both sets have gold rims) so I have also pondered this same charger question. Here's the caveat: I know pewter is really expensive. You mentioned having a flexible budget and spending a little more since you only need 6, so I thought I would present it as an option. It certainly is not the only look that would work, just throwing it out there:)...See Moregrapefruit1_ar
