Craftsman Bungalow Exterior Remodel
Comments (2)Lordy! What idiot did that? Absolutely dump that whatever-the-hell-it-is and replace it with a suitable porch. But, before you do, get a design from an architect qualified in redesigning heritage houses....See MoreHelp! need to get rid of this ugly yellow! complete exterior remodel
Comments (2)Don't you miss those shade trees? Bet they helped lower HVAC bills! If you like a more classic look, here is something pretty. Especially helpful if you like shutters; right now they're out of place on your window style. This is a combo of metal and shingle roofing, probably because the garage and front porch were additions to the existing house I'd guess. Exterior lights should be about 1/3 of the front door's height. Columns could change to 8' squares, IMO. Comments (3)So we’d probably raise the roof to be higher or match the top of the front door threshold. The rendering isn’t 100% accurate. But the front porch itself wouldn’t be exactly flat. It would have a slight angle that would then drop down into a hidden gutter where the front porch meets the slope of the actual house. The drawings were more or less inspiration, a way to show where we were thinking of heading. Just wasn’t sure what opinions would be on the look and what colours people would suggest....See Moreexterior remodel help please-color and design
Comments (5)Even my husband who is not architecturally educated can identify a Modern Farmhouse style house. It's such a specific style that as @cpartist says, it will end up being dated sooner rather than later. Mass produced subdivision colonials may not be special, but they are in a sense timeless in that millions of them have been built and millions of people happily live in them. A black metal roof strikes me as being very impractical. How long are you planning on living in this home? Anytime you make a non-standard design choice you risk alienating a large segment of buyers. Also, in order to completely execute the MF look you would have to replace your windows with black ones. The trim around the front door can be changed to something less colonial and maybe since you're going to have a builder putting on an addition you could add a covered front porch. I hope you're using an architect for your addition. If so, ask them to spec out a front porch. Then you can side the house in a different color. Maybe DH would compromise on the roof (medium gray shingles are the most popular and versatile roofing choice) if you did white siding. Keep the black shutters - they add interest. You would then have a lot of choices for a front door color, or just use black if that's what DH likes. Good luck - it's always hard to get two people to agree on everything. :-)...See MoreDan
