Those are beautiful pictures, forhgtv, but I have one very similar to the first one, and it doesn't look right with the black and white toile lamp shades. It competes with them. Of course, I could move the lamps elsewhere BUT they look no nice on the mantle, and I just love them. Kitch n kat, the reason I mentioned a clock was because I watched an episode of Clean House, in which Mark Brunetz used a large clock over a couch and also a grandfather clock in the room. He is the one who said there are no rules about how many clocks one can use in a room, but you may be right about it being overkill. Could you (or others) HELP ME find a suitable round iron grille (in black) that would work? I like that idea. It can't be over 23 or 24 inches in diameter. I hadn't thought about a stained glass window, but I happen to have one. Trouble is, the squares are red, white and BLUE. It would be wonderful if they were red, white and black. I appreciate your help, guys.

If you're currently using your window wall as your "headboard" ... Is your room wide enough to turn the bed to have the foot of the bed closest to the window wall and still walk between the two and all around the bed -- perhaps putting a wide shallow cabinet or bookcase as a faux pony wall behind the headboard? Have you considered decorating your window(s) with Tiffany style stained glass hangings -- even if you just choose a few to be held on with suction cups rather than the larger, more expensive hangings? If you are talking about window treatments, consider white mini blinds for smaller windows or even white or light colored vinyl vertical blinds for larger windows or patio doors (rather than "crowding" or darkening the room with a lot of fabric? If you prefer some fabric, mini blinds with sheers could be worth considering.

You won't know what is in there until you take it apart. Sometimes during construction they box in areas just because it was the easiest solution. I was able to expand 2 showers by about a foot by removing boxed in sections. There wasn't a reason for them, they just built them that way. Just be prepared, and have the budget, to move any weird things you might find.

I would like to see the chimney and firewall be the same material. If it were mine, I'd probably add brick behind to match and paint it all white (with a heat resistant paint, of course). I would then think about a tile for the floor that is closer to the wood color (but not a wood look tile) so it blends in, or maybe make a statement with a patterned cement tile. Does your woodstove brand have matching stovepipe available? If so, I'd switch it out for burgundy pipe. I don't know the technical aspects of using tile, but some of these with white tile is a more modern/contemporary look than the brick. not this stone, but with matching burgundy stovepipe: white brick: tile? fun hearths: this one with white brick
