Please help us pull together the decor of our master bedroom
Comments (36)Ontario mom, I am posting pictures of our "blue room" that isn't actually painted blue. I think that the blue of Scandinavian Christmas plates looks best on a color other than blue. The white Holly Kay linked to, or something similar, would be beautiful for pine furniture and floors. This is a sort of montage of photos of the room. I have about 100 plates and cannot display them all, but they were the starting point for the room. It was already painted this gold color. I used other blue and white pieces i already owned (urns, vases, Foo dogs, etc) in this room as well. We purchase the oil of children on the beach and I framed it myself in the plein air style. Sorry for the horrible iPhone photos....this shows the plates above the headboard. We used DS2's childhood furniture (armoire and dark pine single size sleigh bed ). We recently put rustic white oak floors in the room and I added this blue and taupe-y gray rug: Closer of plates above headboard (these are Norwegian) and other blue and white stuff on shelf in bed alcove: In the corner is a display thing bought at Ballard Back Room in Atlanta (their discount place). They called it a bookcase but it is perfect for displaying plates in a corner! This is an interesting side table my mother gave me for my birthday about seven years ago. It is a mosaic top made up of broken pieces of blue and white china. On it is a lamp that was in my childhood room...a little too "good" for the rest of the room, but I wanted to use what I had. The bedding is a discontinued Ralph Lauren pattern I found on ebay. They incorporate shades of navy, royal and light blue, which is a perfect foil for the plates. I use the white matellasse cover on the bed with the comforter folded up at the foot. Hope these photos help you envision a blue and white room :-)...See MoreHome decorating help, master bedroom in victorian/turret
Comments (1)Hi! I'm not sure what the rest of the room looks like, but here are my thoughts: I love the idea of painting this room a light gray with white trim. The vault in turret would look better painted same color as ceiling, I think. Roman shades would look awesome in these windows, inside mount. Personally, I would move the chaise to a different area since it doesn't fit the shape of the turret area. Anything round would fit well in this space, so a round table with two chairs. Or a settee with a curved back. If you walk into this room and the turret area is facing you, you could consider putting your bed here (at an angle coming out at you) so that when you walk in you see this bed in the turret area with the windows behind it as a stunning focal point when you walk in. (Again not sure what rest of room looks like, so this may or may not work) Good luck with the project -- sounds like it'll be a transformation once it's done!...See MoreNeed help decorating master bedroom
Comments (18)Agree on the furniture placement that you have. Thanks for the photos. So, if you keep the bed under the window, the best looks seem to be a full ceiling-to-floor drapery behind the bed. Right now, there are several different horizontal lines (blinds, headboard and swag) competing with each other. The long drapery changes all that so there is only one horizontal line, and that would be the headboard. In your room, I'd consider long drapes behind the bed, and eliminate the swag and the blinds. The two rooms below used a light sheer to get daylight into the room, and a heavy drapery for light control at night. The third room used a heavy grommet drapery and no sheers. All these room's have larger bedside lamps....See MorePlease Help with Large Master Bedroom decorating.
Comments (15)I’d find a fabric that you love with your wall color....and start there. Or, find a large area rug with that color in it as your inspiration. A Persian style, perhaps, that includes other colors that can be picked out for fabrics to dress your windows, your bed, and seating in front of your beautiful fireplace. I feel an elegant style emerging..... I know that Houzz designers will come up with idea boards that will inspire you! A lovely room!...See MoreNida D
