Honu, as a general rule of thumb, plants with lots of pigmentation other than green require more light in order to thrive. The purple and pink pigments mask or replace the green chloroplasts, so the plant has to work harder in order to support its own plant body. Remember, the chloroplasts do all of the work. It might be tough to find plants that will thrive under the very low light conditions that you describe. This might sound strange, but you might look at Pottery Barn kids for units that coordinate and can house the TV, computer, etc. If you take away the kiddie accessories shown in the catalog photos, a lot of these units look like "normal" furniture. Here is a link that might be useful: PB Kids

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Yup I used 2 coats of shellac primer on the knots, then about 3 coats on the paneling. Glossy ceiling has been painted with a flat ceiling paint and the boob light is definitely going ! Being replaced with a contemporary white fan. I will rethink white for the walls, I like the photos above and can see that with the right furnishings and decor it doesn’t have to look like a shabby chic beach cottage.
