The garage doors are definitely on the agenda, but I never thought about painting the pergola black, that's an interesting idea. You like the bathroom tile, marcolo? The floor tile is pink. I'm not sure which is original to the house, the wall tile or the floor. The shower was retiled 2 years ago and doesn't look as peachy in person as in the photo. The shed has to be taken completely down as we have square footage limits we're bumping up against for permit approval. Since there's electricity in the shed it's considered living area, and we need that 400 square feet for the house.

I googled Spanish houses and found a bunch of images but the numbers keep changing on them so I can't reference them. The ones I like had dark trim around the windows. I know you just want to paint the door for now, but later down the road you might consider painting the fascia white or to match the tiles and then paint the window and the pergola that dark green color. I found a picture of a color that is something like that caramel apple, but maybe a little lighter. I think it would be cool if you planted some espaliered fruit trees or shrubs along that long wall on the left. With some soft up-lighting that would be very dramatic at night.

We had a free standing vinyl kit pergola from Costco installed three summers ago and we are very pleased-no painting and easy to clean. We are close to the ocean, so durability was important. Louvers close to a max of 45 degrees by design to prevent damage from any snow load, so in the event of rain, it is not water tight. We face south and this area gets very hot. We ended up installing outdoor roller blinds on two sides to provide more shade. I think a pergola would provide a nice focal point to your garden and more year round interest than a deciduous tree.
