Black to white switch? Powder room help
Comments (9)It's hard to make suggestions in a vacuum, IYKWIM! If one of the questions you are asking is if you should get white fixtures, I'd say yes, since you don't care for the black. White is never a bad choice for fixtures - classic. That leads into other issues, like the faucet. Currently it's brass, as are the other metal items. Will you be getting a new faucet with the new sink or re-use this one? Will you choose a brass finish again if you replace the faucet? If you choose a different faucet finish, will you keep current towel ring, hook, knobs etc or match the new faucet? What about the shower ? As for vanity style, your furnishings seem to be very traditional, woods are mid to dark toned, I'd say that's your style preference. However, your wall color is very bold, not what I consider a traditional choice for traditional design! That doesn't mean your powder room has to be an extension of your living areas and duplicate color/style. That's one space that people often feel free to be different because it's small and not one where you spend a lot of time. Way too early to suggest PR wall color....See MoreHow to switch from tans to grays?
Comments (4)Nice house! Since all your inspiration pictures are white, I think you should go for the white. We just painted our lake house with virtually identical tiles BM Cloud Cover and I LOVE it. It's got just enough warmth that the space doesn't feel cold, but it's not at all yellow and sometimes even goes grey. I can't get over how much lighter and brighter our space looks with the white walls. Attached pictures of our oak kitchen and the picture that made us choose it. I also love the idea of Sea Salt and Chantilly Lace. Chantilly is such a clean bright color, perfect for trim and cabinets. But honestly, I don't think you need to paint your cabinets. They'll be much improved after the walls aren't yellow anymore, fit with the lake house, and the money would be better spent on changing out the backsplash. Here's a guide on going grey when your floors etc are beige. If you're thinking a darker gray, BM Gray Owl would be great because it's got blue-green undertones https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/how-to-change-from-beige-to-gray-greige/...See MoreHELP! Comments (9)It's likely you viewed the sample in the store under fluorescent lights which accounts or the difference when they arrived at your home. So the sofas stay. All you can now do is change the paint and items around the sofas and make sure all selections are made in the same light as your home. The green you see is not apparent in your photos, but it can be safely mentioned that ant addition of red or orange tones will enhance the green so stay away from that. Don't bother with the sofa legs which are hidden in the shadows....See MoreHelp! Can’t find a Greige or grey to coordinate with my couch!
Comments (23)I hear you! You don't want a color, you want a neutral on your walls that will work well with your sofa. I have a collection of large color samples, but you probably don't. What I would do in your case is go to the BM store and pick up the 2"x 3" color samples that they have free for the taking. Pick up some of everything, even colors that you may think won't work. If you feel guilty for taking so many you can always take them back when you are done with this exercise. Once you get your samples home take one of your sofa cushions outside - lay down a sheet or something over a table and set your sofa cushion on the table. You want the cushion to be in direct afternoon sun on a clear day. Get a sheet of plain white paper and set that down on your sofa cushion. Then lay 2 of your samples on the white paper. Step back and look at the color combination. Pick your favorite. Lay down another sample. Do this until you have limited the color samples to 3 to 5 samples that you think coordinate well with your sofa. Remember that you have picked out colors that work together every day for most of your life when you pick what you are going to wear or what makeup you are going to use, what bow to place on a package. The reason that I say to do this in direct afternoon sun on a clear day is that we do not have any artificial light source that works as well at rendering color as the sun. It will show you things you won't see in your home till after you have painted a large area, People may disagree with me, but every artist tries to use direct natural sunlight when they paint so that they can get the colors just right. When you take a painting into your home the colors still work together. They may look less vibrant or may look cooler or warmer because the lighting is cooler or warmer, but all the colors are changed in the same way by the lighting so they still work together. (You don't change outfits based on being outside or inside, you wear the same outfit all day and it doesn't suddenly clash when you go into your office. The opposite does sometimes happen. Great hair color until you get in the sunlight - it just turned green! Yikes!. Once you have picked your 3-5 top contenders buy samples of your top 2 or 3. I don't actually recommend poster board, I recommend using 140 lb water color paper. You can buy 30 sheets for about $10. It works very well for painting samples, doesn't warp and has a similar texture to a painted wall. Tape the edges down before painting. Paint 2 coats. let it dry, remove the tape and you will have a narrow white boarder on the edge of your sample. If you want to paint an area of your wall paint it white, then hang your samples on the wall. Then move them to another wall, move them all around the room. live with them for a few days. Look at the color in the morning, afternoon and evening. If one seems a bit too light or too dark or a bit too blue or green you can tweak your selection, but you will be close to that perfect combination. Have confidence and enjoy the process!...See Moresusanlynn2012
