IMO,All sweet peppers are green(unripe/ immature) until they ripen, then they are red(the only kind for many years)yellow,orange or purple. IMO, you are right, but I eat them all & they are great. By the way cucumber are eaten immature in my house( before they turn yellow).

Green bells are immature. They turn colors when ripe, the color depending on which variety you are growing. Most turn red. Others are just about rainbow colored, ranging from red to yellow to somewhat purple to almost black. It takes time and patience and a careful watch for insects and diseases to get to the colored stage. (I don't know of any that stay green through maturity but there may be some that do.) The mature ones taste differently, usually much milder and sweeter. Sandy

Are you quite certain that the dark things aren't aphids? The image is too blurry for me to tell for sure. Double check and give a more detailed description. Yes, the spiders are on our side. The one you've pictured is one of the Argiopes, an important group of web builders. That's certainly an egg sac, which are often created towards the end of the spider 's reign over her territory. That last image shows the spider's housekeeping talents. The little bundles are the husks of her victims, wrapped in a neat package. These spiders will collect their refuse in one location on the web, then the spider will simply sever that line to get rid of the mess.

FWIW, like Dave suggests, as long as the plants don't lose more than 1/3 of total foliage, they'll likely be ok. That damage looks healed over already & I don't see any holes in the new growth. That said, it may be cutworm or another similar caterpillar - they hide during the day. Cutworms burrow into loose soil/mulch around the base of plants & 'sleep' during the day. Bt can be used against caterpillars, but handpicking is often enough to control them in my garden. You can use iron phosphate bait for slugs & snails - it's pretty safe & degrades into fertilizer. I sprinkle the pellets around my tender new seedlings & transplants.
