I've done a bit of research on the undermount sinks with laminate as well. I found the online product that dalcolli linked to, but I also found a local cabinet place that does them as well. The local place fabricates their own laminate countertops (using laminate from Wilsonart or Formica), so they've recently started doing undermount sinks as an option. The person I spoke with said they used the same method to adhere the sinks to the countertop as Karran. It's important to note that even though they say "seamless," there is still the possibility of water getting between the laminate and the wood of the countertop, which could cause the laminate to bubble. The rep from my local place told me there's a warranty on the sink itself, but she pretty much avoided the question of water getting into the laminate (stating there's a 1-year warranty), which is making me re-think the longevity issue of doing an undermount with laminate. Also, the only negative I can think of with getting an undermount sink with other countertop materials is that it can get very germy between the sink and the countertop (in that little "nook" that's created under the counter inside the sink). It doesn't get cleaned as often because you can't see it! I'd still choose an undermount though and just be diligent about cleaning that space. (That's actually an advantage that the laminate undermount has-- there's virtually no "seam" so there is no place for those grimy germs to collect.)

Franke Canada seems to be more of a Canadian arm of Franke KSD than an alternative like FrankeUSA... Looking at the line up the Franke Canada site the list of models (ie: the numbers) for single bowl undermounts seems to be the exact same as the list on the Franke KSD site. I'd expect that to be the same for other categories. The USA site has a much more limited selection with completely different model #s. Not sure which specs are missing from the Canadian site (for the sink I was looking at it had the guage, dimensions including a drawing, and the req. cabinet was listed but it seemed to be a typo lol) but honestly that wouldn't surprise me at all. I don't know why it works out like but I've found a lot of Canadian mirror sites to be missing a lot of info that you can find on the American ones. It's really annoying but with some extra work (even though it really shouldn't be needed) it's easy to get around. Just need to be a cautious consumer... learn the model numbers / SKUs and always refer to / double check those.

Hi Joseph....I was hoping you'd respond! :). I'm an avid fan of yours (blush). We prefer an undermount sink because it's easier to wipe counters off onto the sink and as well because the emphasis will be on the countertop (Cristallo quartzite with gold and copper veining). The only reason we are considering a top mount (which we have now) is because it's easier to replace the sink (hubby might be able to do himself), should it need to be replaced in the future. I'm a bit of an OCD when it comes to the house/kitchen looking pristine all the time (and I both cook and bake A LOT). We are having a difficult time deciding on what sink (Brand, etc.) and color to get. White is out of the question as it's too intrusive next to our stone. Hubby wants a copper (my original idea), but two factors for us to consider is: We have hard water, and heard that may spot the sink, and also PRICE. Paying 2-3K for a sink is out of the question (financially) for us. We are stomped! Our kitchen cabinets are honey maple, our island (in works right now) will be a creamy white color, and then we have the Cristallo quartzite.

I disagree with Joseph. A 30" cabinet is not 30" inside. A so-called 30" sink indeed need close to 30" to mount. It may not fit. Fortunately, Melody has a 27" sink, not a 30" one. It should fit no problem in her cabinet. If by "dishwasher outlet" you're talking about the receptacle for the dishwasher, as long as the plug will fit into it and you can reach it, it should be OK. If the plug itself is the disconnect, it's required to be visible to the guy working on the dishwasher, but a unplugged-plug is going to be pretty easy to see even if the receptacle itself isn't. The other thing to consider (since this was in the plumbing in addition to the electrical forum) is to make sure whatever disposal/tailpiece you're using will meet up with the drain line from the dishwasher.
