Please Help with picking the right backsplash!

I ended up going with what you're seeing in the photo, but I actually hate it... It clashes to me, as everything has too much going on with no flow.

Any suggestions?

i like it. the hardware is off . try the C or D shape handles...note other geometric tiles in spaces.

Thanks for the feedback and compliments on the granite everyone. It sounds like all of you are on the same page and think I should wait. I am having a hard time figuring out how to make that happen. Our kitchen project is a remodel and we hired a general contractor to do the work. His crew does most of the work. Our project is scheduled to take six weeks. With the lead time on the tile, I can't wait until the cabinets and granite are installed and still have the backsplash completed as part of the project. Would you all still just wait? The pictures were taken in my current kitchen and the amount of lighting won't be changing. We live in a heavily shaded area and we have very little natural light in our kitchen even with windows along the back of the house. The amount of light wont be a lot different in the new kitchen. I know the piece of granite is just a small part of the slab but with some of the grey and tan tones in the floor tile I thought the smoke would work better overall. I think I am going to drive myself crazy with all of the decisions that have to be made before this project is over...

I don't think you're playing it safe. I think you're finding your style. We all mess up with our choices. If you take a look at the color tone of all your favorites and the one you installed; they are all light. So that's where you start. A light backsplash is definitely a perfect match for your stone. You cabs are darker and something light with some visual interest will be great. I think people find that visual interest in different things. Yours just happens NOT to be in tumbled stone. One is not "more right" then the other. I happen to find I'm always drawn to glass... it's just a matter where you taste lies. I can't wait to see it photoshopped. I have no clue how to do that or I do it for you!

Herb ~ I thought about using an accent behind the cooktop but I'm not sure I like them! I really like the diamond too. Philo ~ I'll look at the waterjet tile tonight, thanks for the link! The cabinets were custom made by a local shop. I went with a 3" stile and rail and absolutely love the look. The leathered steel grey is even better in person ;) Barncatz ~ The first thing I learned on Houzz... everything looks better with your pet in the pic! Great idea about grouting the sheets... I wonder if they sell small samples? The convex tile was purchased at Arizona Tile and it's priced really well so using that would save me a ton! We put it up horizontally and vertically, I like it horizontal. H202 ~ Do you like the marble subway or the plain tile? Nosoccer ~ I love the look of that light grey grout. Mayflowers ~ Would the white diamond be too much pattern or should I be looking at texture vs color?

My previous home has miles of pine v-match wainscot and eave walls, with wood floors in oak and pine. Floors and wainscot were finished in a clear poly, and we easily had every shade seen in your kitchen (from these photos) from the darker ruddy brown to the paler cabinet colors. With the natural lighting and smaller, low ceiling rooms, we found that saturated colors worked best with all the wood tones. The green below is SW Sassy Green. All this to say I think a saturated mid-tone green or orange would look good in that space. A few years ago, a kitchen reveal was posted on here of a kitchen that was done to reflect the MCM roots of the house, and they used a mosaic tile in bright shades small square tiles, and it looked perfect in the kitchen. I don't know wether it would work with that granite, though. Alas, I cannot find that kitchen again. Good luck! I hope it was not too hard to leave your fab previous kitchen!

I was also going to say, I see the hardware and the counter top seam more than I see the backsplash. Also the gray paint and lack clean edge next to the cabinet. And why do your lowers look beat up?

I love the back splash, its gorgeous, and agree the handles on your cabinets are not the right shape. I also agree, that what the room needs is some color. The backsplash, doesnt appear to clash with anything, because, everything is pretty plain.

Think the cabinets and counters are more refined traditional look and the tile is more casual modern look so a disconnect in style.

You must have liked it at one point to have selected it. Do you hate it because of other people's comments? If you had doubts, you should have stopped the installation in-process.

Personally, I like it and find it refreshing to see some actual style instead of the same old boring subway tile. Like Joy Street said, add some color. I have a turquoise coffee maker! After you live with it for awhile, you might look at differently as a bold, exciting and interesting choice.
