HAVE: Hoya plants and cuttings
Comments (8)I could spare a few small cuttings of Hoya chinghungensis, if you could spare a small cutting of H. pachyclada. I prefer the variegated one, but green is fine, too. But, I'm looking for ones with the red edge only. This spring, I expect to have some rooted H. Maxima (red corona), as I have a ton of runners which should leaf out in spring. Any chance you have a variegated DS-70 in your collection? I have many in your list, so just ask.... Kathy...See MoreTop 10 Hoyas
Comments (35)Well, I still have a bunch of Aerangis modesta growing on in there. The mounted ones are doing quite well. The potted ones have almost all bit the dust. I would've mounted them all but I ran out of supplies and haven't gotten more. The recently unflasked guys are Aerangis mystacidii and Neofinetia falcata 'Shu Ten Nou'. They are so cute. I really really wanted Aerangis punctata but wasn't able to reserve a flask in time. I am crazy and requested a reservation of a Cattleya luteola flask as well! Hopefully it won't come ready for a while now, I need some breathing room. I'm more worried about insects than disease. My first terrarium, which houses my very lovely Aerangis kirkii, acquired bush snails somewhere along the way and I Can't. Get. Rid. Of. Them. I hate them so much. It also effectively means I cannot add to that terrarium, or move anything in there to another, because I dare not spread the snails around. It frustrates me enough that I want to just start over and scrap that one, but Aerangis kirkii is not the easiest to come by, and mine has done a lot of growing and is turning into quite the specimen, as long as I keep up with it. Plus there are a few other nice specimens in there (like Pleurothallis grobyi and Chaemangis hariotiana), which are more easily replaceable, but I don't want to have to. Hey, so far the hoyas that are in the big terrarium are behaving quite nicely. They have not been attacking the orchids or taking over their space. Everyone is getting along. In fact, the hoyas in there get watered quite regularly because I have to check on the mounted orchids almost daily. Resolution shmesolution... I feel like half the time when one makes a resolution, you are daring yourself to do the opposite. Or maybe that's just me :)...See MoreFast draining mix (Gritty or something similar) for Hoyas
Comments (36)I use the smaller ones..aerator kind....one part stones one part coir and 1/5 part bio-char.The bio- char is a rough estimate, but i usually just mix up enough for a few plants at a time.Like one quart stones, one quart coir and about 2/3 to a cup of bio-char.As long as your medium is chunky and quick draining most of the stuff mentioned on this post will work if used with the great white and molasses.I had to do a lot of tweaking with this for it to work for me.Mostly how often i water, how much i water and regulating my pH with the nutes and soil amendments i use.I always rely on a moisture meter as well.I also have a pH pen that i use from time to time. Some of the best hoya growers are giving up on the grow stones for various reasons. One grower says she has too much water retention in the stones which leas to root rot in some of her plants, and the other has been having high pH problems with the stones resulting in chlorosis and leaf drop on some of his hoyas. With the microbes and molasses, the plants are more forgiving with less optimum conditions like wet feet, overly dry for too long, low humidity, excessive cold,pH issues etc.I just don't want you to spend tons of money and be discouraged if you don't get the results you are looking for.Grow stones has a product with the coir and microbes mixed in already..kinds like the mix i use minus the bio-char.Link for reference..http://www.amazon.com/Growstone-GS-3-Coco-Soil-9-Liter/dp/B00I8J1X9C/ref=pd_sim_86_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=51manGvpMCL&dpSrc=sims&preST=AC_UL160_SR124%2C160&refRID=1PR35PM43EJ1SPRFM24Y...See MoreLarge & interesting leaved hoyas
Comments (90)Chuy - I suspect it's some obscure option we need to check but so far I haven't found it. I also notice some posts have "comment" under them while others do not. I imagine that too is an option. I'll go skulking around my account and the various options to see if there is anything pertaining to it. If I'm not back in an hour, it means the electrons have discombobulated me and I was probably transported to an alternate universe somewhere. Hopefully it's one with hoyas in it! I'll let you know what I discover later tonight or tomorrow....See Morepopmama (Colorado, USDA z5)
