~What's the big deal about 'Big Brother'
Comments (4)LOL, yeah, they've all been pretty tacky :) I think you'd have to watch a whole season to understand the addiction . . . these people are in the house for 3 months - no contact whatsoever with anybody else, no TV, no newspapers, etc. After a short time, they completely forget there are cameras everywhere and it gets pretty ugly. You see them as their raw, unguarded selves. One of the first seasons showed a vengeful girl using another houseguest's toothbrush to scrub out a toilet . . . then putting it back into the toothbrush holder. There are no "normal" people here . . . they are all drama kings and queens who are completely narcissistic. It's just an opportunity to be a voyeur into the world of the 'I can't believe there are people who would do that stuff' kind of thing . . . hey, we have long, boring winters up here :) The 'strategy' revolves around keeping yourself aligned with a group so you have power in numbers when it comes to voting people out. This year they threw a monkeywrench into that area, because they are being voted out in teams of two - so whether or not one person in the team is liked or innocent (of whatever), they both go. The power in the house is constantly shifting; someone may be king of the world one week, and the bottom of the totem pole the next week. The first seasons didn't have people who knew each other . . . but in order to change/spice things up, the last few seasons started doing that. The BB motto is "expect the unexpected" so unlike Survivor, where things are always pretty much the same every year with different faces, BB shakes things up a lot. Also, by having it on 2 to 3 times a week, you REALLY get to know the houseguests . . . the good, the bad and the ugly :) They also have an uncensored version of the house on Showtime on late night. I can't stay up for much of it, but it's always stuff they could never show on primetime. This bunch has been wild as all getout at night . . . my 21 yr. old DD watches with me and I made her promise she'll NEVER EVER try out for this show . . . her poor old mother couldn't take watching her baby in a mess like that . . ....See MoreHow big a deal is it to replace radiators with other radiators?
Comments (23)Greta Interiors, I was the OP years ago, so here's my situation: I really, really want a nice windowsill-height cover over the rad that's under my front living room window (pictured here with the late lamented and eponymous Maddy Beagle a few years ago) and a window seat over the ones in my entryway and dining room, which are identical in height and placement. But the ones I have stick up well above the height of the sill with absolutely no clearance between rad and sill, so it would look very odd to add a cover on top. A big motivation for replacing them with lower-profile ones would be to allow use of the sill and a flat-topped cover on this one, possibly curtains, and a window seat if I could get one low enough in the other locations. So—great minds think alike!...See MoreCountertop not flush on side near stove and caulking. Big deal?
Comments (20)Really appreciate all the feedback I’ve been getting. To the left of the misaligned counter is our fridge. I wonder if they would be able to just move it over slightly as it seems like the back end still has some clearance. Otherwise, like it’s been mentioned, and they move just the front end over to the right to cover the base cabinet then it will create a bit of a gap on the left back end. We do plan to eventually get backsplash though so it shouldn’t be too much of a concern if that is the route we need to take. As for the caulking on the island, my GC and I actually made sure it was leveled prior to counter installation so it’s weird there is that much of a gap. It could be that we only checked the leveling of the front and back of the cabinet and not just the front horizontally....See MoreRed flag or no big deal?
Comments (26)Just some thoughts: Your realtor ... or the seller's realtor? If the realtor represents the seller, seriously rethink skipping the inspection -- and/or hire an inspector that represents YOU. Alternately, if there is electricity connected to the house, at least go in and inspect it yourself -- turn every thing off and on and make sure it works. Look and listen for problems and don't let anyone distract you while you do that ... if they try to distract you, you might want to be suspicious as to why . Do some research and get all the original plat and building specs, etc., you can from the local / county real estate records office and don't forget to talk with your closing attorney about title insurance you can purchase at time of closing. See if any of the available documents raise questions and if they do, ask. Always make informed decisions -- "hoping for the best" is not the best plan. Always read and understand what you're signing ... especially when it involves a major purchase. IF the light switch plate is what is cut, then you could likely remove the light switch cover and look inside the box to which it is attached since the screw to do so is centered beneath the light switch itself. It may well be that the trim board is trimmed to fit over a full light switch plate which would mean removing the trim would be required if there is ever an issue with the switch....See MoreToronto Veterinarian
