I have a "temporary" microwave counter that I made for our kitchen, knowing that it would only be there for a few years. When we do the new kitchen, out it goes. But, even so, I did the best job I knew how to do with that counter, and it still looks good. And it's still in our kitchen, because some ten years later, we do still not have a new kitchen. So, I'm glad I made that counter when I did and put the amount of work into it that I did. Truthfully, itÂs the best looking part of the kitchen! The one problem area you might run into is matching the new painted cabinets to the old, because paint sometimes changes colors over the years. Kitchen grease will do that, but so will the sun and just oxidation. If I were going to paint now and add new painted cabinets later which I wanted to match the old, I would just go forward on the assumption that I would paint everything again when the new went in. That way everything would be guaranteed to match.

I think that the color in the picture is gorgeous, but that a paler shade of the same thing...a softer, dustier one...would give you more the effect you want. Take a close look at the picture, and you see that the bit closest to the camera, with reflected sunlight on it, seems closer to what you might like than the way it looks up in the corner, where you see that it's actually quite deep. Reds always seem stronger on the wall than on the chip...I would suggest that you take a look at these Duron colors (it's the only fandeck I have at hand just now...teach me to lend those out!) SW 6324-Mellow Coral SW 6325 Constant Coral SW 6332 Coral Island SW 6347 Chrysanthemum ...and see if any of them interest you. They are all more flower-pot colored than pink, and have a soft earthy quality to them that I think would work for you?

Silver, I agree about the effect of glossy versus flat. I guess I think of a white room with white closets. I did a google images search for those, because in my mind that is the same as beige walls with beige closets, or blue walls with blue closets. To me, when the doors have that much detail, painting them out doesnÂt make them disappear, because in being the same color as the walls but with such a different surface texture, they still stand out - only now it looks like one is trying to hide them and not succeeding. But, and I firmly believe this and say it all the time, it is YOUR space. You should do what works for YOU. There is no right or wrong, just choices and personal taste. So, if painting the door and trim in the wall color will make the room work better for you, then you should do it! Maybe what you should do, with your talent, is paint small paintings on canvas (perhaps a series of floral studies or nature studies) and apply those to the panels in the door( or paint directly on the door, I guess, but then you canÂt remove them and sell them), paint out the surrounding door to look like a darker frame, and create a great focal point!

Matt, Most US wallpaper sites don't show their pricing; you have to call the store to get it. I did find an Australia listing HEREwhich shows the price in AUS dollars. Their price is $281.33 for a single roll (The standard size of a SINGLE roll of wallpaper is 21 in. wide x 16.5 ft. long) In American dollars, that is $185.96. My dining room is also done in a Thibaut light blue wallpaper, that I love. It was a splurge, but mine is smaller than yours and I also just did above the chair rail. I'm adding another fervent vote for you to try to keep it and work with it.
