What is this bush/shrub? Cherry something?
Comments (3)Crabapple (Malus) Prunus (Plum, in this case) The purpleleaf plum does not look to me to be P. x cistena but rather another kind. If you keep to grow larger time will tell. Perhaps birds or squirrels have planted these two trees there....See MoreShrubs or Bushes for Flowerbed
Comments (3)You didn't say if the bed faces north, south, east or west, if it is in full sun or part shade or heavy shade, etc., so it is hard to say what would do well there. The shrubs I'd recommend for a west-facing wall that bakes in the heat in the summer months clearly would be quite different from those I'd recommend for a north-facing wall. So, I've linked a thread from a couple of years ago that includes a list of plants for all the different exposures (N, S, E, W), and then many other people's replies too, so from the thread linked below, you should get lots of ideas. Within any plant family listed, you can get shrubs of all sizes, so the list is a starting point. For example if you decided you wanted a holly shrub, there are some that get 25' tall and some that get 2' tall, so you should use the lists as a "starting point", but once you decide what type of plant you want, then all you have to do is look for cultivars that remain small and compact with little if any pruning. Comments (4)With the red tints to the stem, you may be able to narrow the possibilities of which cultivar. For instance, it is unlikely to be Limelight. Hydrangea paniculata are one of my favorite plants for their unfussy care and long bloom season (3-4 months). Some cultivars can get quite large, so plan for that in figuring out where to resite them. They start blooming white, and they age to pink....See Moremad_gallica (z5 Eastern NY)
