I originally thought doors because my house has a bunch and the car has four wheels but five doors and so forth but then again I realized that I have cabinets with wheels in addition to the chairs with wheels and carts with wheels and wheel barrows and hand trucks of which we have several. Even our gate has wheels. Our shop equipment has wheels like the saws and jointers and such. I think the wheels have it.

I'll vote WHEELS......so many casters and carts/dollies/dials n the world that aren't involved in

transportation that add to the 'wheel' total.

I don't know but I pity the person that had to count them all to find the answer.

I think wheels because so much mechanical equipment requires wheels of one sort or another to operate: think clocks, gears, dishwasher trays, etc.

I don't think it can be proved either way but my gut instinct is doors. Many countries have a large number of homes but not as many vehicles per capita as perhaps North America.

I vote wheels as each vehicle has 2, 3, 4 or more like a semi. Doors tend to be numbered due to limited access to each apartment/office etc. Not sure if you're counting doors on vehicles too...in which case, I'd say the reverse.

Wheels. Definitely wheels.

Knowing that Lego is the largest wheel manufacturer in the world, and all the gears needed for machines, I’d say wheels.

OTOH, there sure are a lot of little doors oh furnaces, dryers, Advent calendars (especially all the new varieties of Advent calendars!). So tough call!

I’d still say wheels. They are an essential, basic machine.

Lots of families have 2 or 3 cars, so 10 - 15 wheels, but more doors than that in their house? And with stores, offices, etc. with doors but no residents.

And millions in the third world have maybe a door or three in a simple house, but no wheels - oh, wait a minute: many have bikes.

jmm, you are absolutely right-for the car it is a push. But I have drawers in my kitchen instead of doors. And the shop has almost no doors (three) and a bucket load of wheels.

This is like the chicken and the egg question.... No way to prove it and both answer sound right.

Since most people are saying wheels, Ill say doors. Think of all the cabinets and closets!

I'm team door. Most (not all) cars have as many doors as wheels. Yes, there are 4 tires plus a steering wheel, but an SUV has a rear hatch - isn't that a door? - and most have a door (albeit, small) covering the gas cap. Then there are the garage doors you drive it in and out of. Eighteen wheelers have lots of wheels, but have you seen the warehouses they're loading and unloading from....oh, the doors! As I sit in my house right now, I can see we have many more doors than wheels when you count the front door, back door, bedroom doors, bathroom doors, office door, basement door, closet doors, coat closet door, linen closet doors, kitchen cabinet doors, bathroom cabinet doors, and china cabinet doors.

Then, I start to consider all of the high rise housing, hospitals, and skyscraper office buildings in every city, plus the hospitals and mid-rise office buildings in moderate sized cities and towns everywhere and it becomes even clearer. The cars that you've already counted wheels for at each individual home are the same cars parked in the mall parking lots and office garages, so there's no addition there; but there is an addition for all of those doors. Yep, doors. Definitely doors.

Don't forget the millions of shopping carts with 3 good wheels, one bad wheel, and zero doors.

When I first read the post, I thought that wheels were meant as on a car, a bike, a trolley - not cogs, flywheels, etc inside machinery. With that limitation I would say doors, worldwide.

If we were limited to the "developed" world, I would guess wheels might be, but I bet it would be pretty close.

As for the chicken and the egg, there is not a single chicken that did not hatch from an egg, and reptiles (or non-chickens) had eggs long before there were birds. When the first chicken that mutated from a reptile was born, it hatched from an egg.

Lars is right about the chicken. The creature that wasn't quite a chicken had an egg that hatched out due to mutations to become a chicken. Straight forward it was the egg. Doors vs wheels is more or a way we live our lives thing.

This is a tough one!

According to Worldometer, just this year alone 32,000, 000 bikes have been produced and still counting. How many more bikes are there out there? And cars and trucks and motorcycles and rollerskates and…oh my gosh!

But then all the buildings out there with doors! Oh my!!

@User -- Oh my God, I forgot about golf carts!!! (which have no doors, like LoneJack reminded me about shopping carts.) Even my little golf push cart has 4 wheels. Alright, alright, I'm changing my mind.....sigh....
