I would agree with Linda, except for the price. Furniture has been a hard sell for several years and the current state of the economy has made it worse. As for bevels, I too have an extravagant mid-Victorian chest of drawers topped by a rather large bevelled mirror that is original to the piece. Bevelled mirrors were probably more expensive and saved for better pieces which is why you do not see them often. It is also less expensive to replace damaged mirrors in older pieces with ordinary flat mirror. A very good book for overall coverage (7'000 photos) is "The Antiques Directory, Furniture" by editors Judith and Martin Miller and John Bly. Your library might have it, or Amazon. I am one who subscribes to the sunshine and fresh air theory ;) In the interim, I've linked to a product below that I really like. You can get it at Lowe's, for sure, and other stores (paint stores) but Lowe's is least expensive in my area. I bought a vintage (but pristine) Drexel bedroom suite and the drawers smelled of perfume (it was obnoxious). Before I ever used it I put several of these odor absorbers inside the drawers and kept them shut tight for a good month. (We got the set in winter). Come summer there was no need to air it out, after a month the smell was completely gone and dresser/armoire/night table smelled fresh and a bit citrus like, instead of old stale perfume ;) There's Citrus Magic, but I much prefer Natural Magic. Also, my local Ace has begun selling some very pricey odor absorbing gels ($17) I heard good things about but can't attest to and can't remember the name. Maybe your local Ace would have it? (Mine has it on a display with a video playing, so it's very prominent).

Yes...Eastlake....and the drop[ pulls are accurate....are you missing some? If you do get new....keep the old ones and only replace what's needed. The nails show because there were decorations, veneer and perhaps a rosette and someone removed them....and the nails are what's left. Pity. But it's still very nice... It's several kinds of wood....I don't see any walnut but then I am not close to it....likely butternut, which is a walnut variety but lighter in color...and perhaps maple and birch. Lukki - Sorry I wrote my last post in a hurry and should have just waited until I had a few more min. I like a mix of stained and painted pieces in a kid room. We'll probably eventually buy a headboard second hand and it's usually easier, and gives more options, to paint so I figure the headboard will later be painted. I plan to add art and toys and all that kid stuff. Actually DS1's room has too many painted pieces for my preference, but I don't have the energy to strip any of the furniture right now so it is what it is. And it looks fine for now. A while back I was going to strip the night stand in that room, but it will have to wait at least until spring. I'm still not feeling super, unfortunately. Tibb - You're right about holes and dowel rods. A lot of the fun hardware tends to be knobs though and not pulls. I'll have to look around more. I also don't want to spend a fortune on them. I'd have to find something that really is captivating to me. Hmmm... maybe some type of nautical pull. Not seeing much so far that aren't knobs. Rope pull from Anthro. Iron and jute, 3" from Anthro. Wrap some pulls. Some other DIY handles. Showing with stained wood. Rugged rope with tied knots. I think this would be hard to do. I think it would be fun to find a fish, lobster, or whale pulls. So far the few I'm seeing look serious and like they belong in a lake house. What about painted pulls? Red, blue, or white? Pumpin out ideas... colored pulls wrapped in twine.
