Do you have a picture of the room? Or Floorplan? How many are in your family and how many are usually hosted?

I will try to add a picture. There will usually be 2 but with family about 10.

Would you want all 10 to be able to sit at the table? LIkely your best bet if so would be something with a removable leaf to extend the table when necessary. It sounds like a rectanuglar or square table would fit best.

Even though there is seating at the island, I would like to have as many as can sit together at the dining table.

I would look at doing something custom perhaps. You get way more input on design and likely not much more than something of great quality. Our DR table is from James&James. It was nice as you can customize most every aspect. They have a variety of styles and can choose different colors and sizes as you want.

You may be able to find someone local as well who is comparable in quality/price. We had a coffee table, end dtable, and console made locally as well.

I would look for a rectange table with two extensions. Love the table below and attaching link so you can reference the dimensions. You could tape out both vertically and horizontally and see how it feels to get around, especially due to the sliding doors nearby. An oversized chandelier would be a good choice in such a large space and ground the dining room. Don’t base on table size, as it will vary with extensions.

This is how a 6-foot round table would approximately look like. There is enough room for 9 chairs (space of 25 in per chair -- the diagram has 18-in wide, 24-in deep chairs), and could add one more chair if necessary. As you see, it takes up a lot of space. If it will be 2 of you most of the time, I agree with the others - your best option is an expandable table.

You’ll need to leave 5 feet between the island countertop and tabletop.

In that space, I'd want a rectangular or oval table roughly 5x3' or 3 1/2' that could expand to 7-8' when needed. That would fit comfortably /allow space for circulation on a daily basis ... and would give you extra seats when needed.

I don't like that kitchen island ... its size is overwhelming, and I don't see how you'll be able to reach the space in the middle to clean it.

Rectangle for sure. Easy to add onto. Oval or circle not easy to add on

I have an oval table with two extension leaves -- it expands easily from just over 5' to about 8'. The middle of the table is straight /only the ends are ovals. The top expands, while the underneath support rail remains still.

I like the oval table because it makes circulation around the ends easier. On the other hand, in a pinch I could squeeze two people at the end of my rectangle table. Can't do that with my oval.

Also, tablecloths for oval tables are limited.

I've only had my oval table about 6 months, but I love it.

A small point about those tulip-tables above ... my breakfast table is not just like that, but it's a pedestal. In general, I love it, but I hate that I can't use a clip-on high chair with my grandson. I do love those clip-on high chairs.
