Good morning, ladies! Robin -- was up late and up alot all night, I didn't sleep well at all! Hope you had a good shift last night and it wasn't too stressful.

Jayme -- I am good, enjoy that new baby, so exciting! Extreme heat... I would like a little extreme heat around here. It rained all night and I woke up to fog.

Those waffles look so good, I wish they were real!

Yeah, I took something for my knees last night, but I think the caffeine in it kept me awake.
@kimdee...oh no. I can't take Benadryl, it wires me up, opposite of what it does to most people. Sorry about your knees!

How hot is it going to get there today Jayme?
Class today Michele because I was able to switch out of that professor class. I was hoping to have Tuesday free but not do much. I have class from 1 to 5 today. Getting ready as I type this.
@Jayme -- Benadryl does nothing to me, not even a bit sleepy from it, while puts other people out like a light. I took Tylenol with codeine to take the sharp edges off. It doesn't makes me sleepy either really, but the caffeine in it doesn't help at night I guess. Thankfully I don't need a 'heavy hitter' that often, at least for the time being.

I went to a warehouse sale today of a company that does insulation products - window kits, pipe wrap etc. I didn't know they also did all types of mats and runners as well as thresholds.

My stairs have needed new carpet forever - it is a great quality carpet but it wasn't new when we moved in 21 years ago. I bought a stair runner today, actually bought both rolls they had so I can run it down through the hallway if I decide to. Couldn't beat the price a buck a foot! Not the greatest quality product in the world, but definitely nice looking and more suited to the style of the house than the basic tan plush on the stairs now. This one is only 27" wide instead of the 31 inch width currently in place so I bought brass stair rods to help take up a bit more of the space visually. Couldn't beat the price on them either - $1.50 each for solid brass stair rods!

I also bought a 65 foot roll of bamboo runner which I'm going to roll out in the next house listed for sale so people don't have to track water through the house

    I like that too. :)

    @mforr
Mid to high 90's next few days...Many of our schools r not fully air conditioned, so it is sweltering in the schools. Interestingly (and appallingly, the teachers have to stay the rest of the day even though the kids r dismissed at 1pm due to the heat).
-also it gets so humid up here which adds to the grossness of it.
@LInda...great deal! Show us a pic when u get done.

Jayme, that's so draining. I'll bet the teachers are holed up in teachers lounge or main offices, generally those areas are air conditioned. I think it's an awful shame that schools aren't air conditioned in areas that need it. It would be a drop in the bucket for some of the major companies to donate materials, so the school districts could pick up only the labor. And there are a lot of bigger companies that could pick that up too.

Robin -- which pot are you stirring? An actual pot, or a figurative one?
That's mousemaker stirring the pot, kimdee. Her profile pic looks like robins when you glance at it quickly. :)
She's stirring up a gigantic pot of chutney. Hot work, but oh so delicious. :)

At the memorial service. Have an Xl pack of Kleenex and have already cried x3. As soon as I saw the ambulance outside I lost it.

    Aha, yes it does.

Robin - tough day I know. Hang in there... xoxo

The power just went out here and I was right in the middle of a job. Not expecting it back until 2:30... Like an hour and 15 from now. Crud.

Now warming up my leftover pizza. On the BBQ...

    Ugh.
Oh! It's back already. BBQ off, oven on.
i'm a robin? thanks :) I thought Robin was Robin..where have I been? :) Yes, I do stir the pot both literally and figuratively. it's my destiny :) or fate, depending on how you look at it. I changed the recipe a little, I used some currants to replace some of the raisins.
we were hooked on Chatellier sauce until it got too expensive. It's a wild game sauce that we ate with our meat and it's got currant juice in it. The chutney is a bit different, you can eat it with whatever you like but it's really good with pork.

I was just reading another thread and someone posted about how our standards for "must haves" had changed to include two bathrooms, a master bathroom with dual sinks and separate WC, and large walk-in closets.

My parents redid the family bathroom in their farmhouse 50 years ago (!) and it has two sinks and a toilet hidden from view from the doorway. Directly across the hallway was a walk in storage closet. Fortunately for everyone, their taste in fixtures was rather boring - white fixtures, white tile with a few light blue tiles set in a pattern on the wall. As a child, I remember friends visiting me who were just amazed at a bathroom with two sinks - it just seemed so ridiculous to have an extra sink in the bathroom! Now we all seem to believe that a house isn't complete without a private sink for each adult.

Then, a few years later they put on an addition and reconfigured the layout so the house then had two full baths and an extra toilet easily accessible to people in dirty work clothes. At the time, it seemed almost decadent to have two nice full baths plus the mudroom facilities for a family of 5 while most people had nothing more than 1 bath with perhaps a powder room - 3 toilets - just seemed so excessive. Isn't it funny how our ideas have changed?
It's amazing. The only part of all those things that I wouldn't give up is the extra toilet accessible to people in dirty work clothes. There should always be a place like that. Now if only they would build somebody to clean it. :)

I remember as a child thinking how silly it was to have two sinks in the same bathroom since only one person used it at a time. It did make a little sense in that bathroom as one sink was lower with a pull out stool for little people while the other was higher. But, two identical sinks? in the same bathroom?

Amazing how our vision of an ideal house changes over the years.

Every time I go to an Emergency Services funeral, I am amazed and proud of the camaraderie and support that is shown towards our peers. The event had over 300 people in attendance which is a testament to his life. A very very sad day but filled with laughter just as he would have wanted it.

I'm off to bed. It's been a long day. Have a good sleep OLLD's.
Good night Robin, get some rest :)

It's so true Linda, I remember thinking it was a little decadent to have two sinks, now I'm very happy to have them, but that's because there's frequently my husband getting ready at the same time, plus I like that mine always looks good and I can chastise my husband for his "piggy" ways. There's no hiding your mess when you're the only one using a sink, hahaha.
